About our home

A typical French village home with modern kitchen and full bath. 35 minutes south of Poitiers, the provencial capital, a lovely formerly Roman city and a university town with plenty to see and do. The house is rustic, but comfortable and private. The property is completly enclosed by an old stone wall and gate.
Blanzay is a lovely village with welcoming neighbors, both French & English speaking; a beautifully restored 12th century Romanesque church; a café/restaurant serving food & drink at reasonable prices; a bakery with good French bread & pastries; a post office; a small gocery,& many miles of walking and biking trails through the surrounding fields . We are only 5 minutes from the town Civray on the Charente River, which has a lively open-air market every Tuesday & Friday, sidewalk cafés,plenty of small shops & boutiques,& beautiful riverside walks and parks
Rail & airline connections are close by & easily accessable. Paris is only 1&1/2 hours away by highspeed train from the Poitiers station. The village is a little over an hour from the Loire Valley castles. Only 2 hours from the Atlantic coast beaches at La Rochelle and in the Vendée. And 1&1/2 hours from Limoges and the central mountains (Massif Central). A bi-lingual friend, who lives nearby, is available to help our guests with any questions or problems. There is a large English-speaking community in the area, and English is also understood by many of the local French
