About our home

Our house is in a very quiet residential area, surrounded by the pine tree forest, only a few km from the beach the Pyrenees and Spain. The ground floor has a large living and dining area, with an open kitchen. It opens onto a spacious south facing terrace with barbecue and a 500 m2 garden. At the back of the house there is another wooden terrace facing east so one has the choice between sun and shade at any time of the day. There are two bedrooms a bathroom and a separate shower also on the ground floor. The top floor has a large main bedroom including a mezzanine, an "office" corner and access to the balcony. There is also a smaller bedroom on the same floor. Christelle likes continuously improving the interior design to keep the house as comfortable as possible. The house is equipped with Hi-Fi, TV, DVD, and wireless internet access. You can dispose of 4 bikes (2 adult, 2 kids), a car, surfboards, snorkelling gear, etc? We have a cat (Baghera) who will require feeding and a few caresses now and then.

More about us

  1. We are a couple in our early 40s with French, German, Hungarian and Spanish origins, with two boys (3 and 9). Christelle is a psychologist working with mentally handicapped children at the hospital in Dax. I am a professor of physics and astronomy at the Paris Observatory commuting to Paris every week by train. We are all 4 very "outdoors" and always on a hike, a bike ride or on the beach. Our favourite activities are surfing, mountaineering, hiking, biking? basically anything you do outdoors. We like peaceful and uncrowded places. We enjoy travelling and meeting different people and cultures. When away we prefer finding a place we like and staying there rather than visiting all of a country in a few weeks. In that respect a home exchange looks ideal. Our first excahnge in Aug. 2009 was a great success for all involved, so we're keen to try again. Our children are open minded and well behaved (most of the time) and at ease in different countries and cultures, thanks to a family spread all over Europe and frequent travel overseas. Ideally we are looking for a simultaneous exchange, but non-simultaneous could be an option depending on the chosen period and duration.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Seignosse is a coastal village in the Aquitaine region (http://www.tourisme-aquitaine.fr/en/) within 6km of endless white sand beaches that stretch from Biarritz (35km south) all the way to Bordeaux (150km north). It is 10km from Hossegor world famous for its surfing beaches and its nightlife in summer. Plenty of more "mellow" beaches and surfing can be found along the beaches of Seignosse and further north. Thanks to the Gulf stream the ocean is warm (22°C) and well suited for all nautical activities. The Seignosse golf-course is rated among the top ten of France. We are only an hour away from the Pyrenees mountains (> 3000m) that offer great mountaineering and hiking possibilities on their French and Spanish sides. Biarritz is 30min with a large choice of cultural activities, Casino and great dining and nightlife. For a complete change of scenery and culture, Spain is 60km away (less than an hour) with rapid access to San Sebastian, Pamplona, and Bilbao for cultural visits (Guggenheim museum) and the spectacular Basque coast with picturesque villages like Mundaka less than 2hrs. Bordeaux and its vineyards can be reached in 1.5 hrs, Toulouse in 3 hrs. Barcelona, the Mediterranean, and Madrid are within 5-6hr and well suited for week-ends. The south-west has a strong cultural heritage in architecture, and haute-cuisine, including some of the finest Restaurants in France (eg. http://www.michelguerard.com/). Finally, Paris is only 4 hrs on a high speed train...
