Our house was built in the 1850s,one of the first in the neighborhood, Quartier Brancas. It looks out on the original Royal Porcelain Factory of Sevres, and on one side is a stairway which used to give access when the neighborhood was a sort of "gated community" in the nineteenth century. The house is very spacious and comfortable, with all "mod cons." It has eight rooms, plus a laundry room.
My wife and I are two retired teachers. I spent 30 years teaching at an international school in Paris and working as a radio journalist. My wife has just retired from her university position as a teacher of French as a foreign language, her specialty is phonetics.
The neighborhood,Quartier Brancas, is enitely suburban. Rue Brancas is a snaking hill street, and the house is located near the bottom. It is in easy walking distance of shops which eliminates the need for a car for everyday shopping. The house is about 5 kilometers from Paris, and by the most frequent public transportion, bus and metro, or train, is about 30 minutes from central Paris. By car, 15 minutes from Versailles. To Paris by car is anything from 25 minutes to a 50, depending on the time of day. Not recommended since parking can be difficult, though possible. A car is certainly useful for exploring the environs. Sevres is just west of Paris. Just a 5 minute walk away, is an entrance to the Parc de Saint Cloud, a large, sprawling 17th-18th century park laid out by Le Notre, very agreeable for strolling.
