About our home

Our lodge is situated on the leisure resort of Souillac Country Club (See the Homepage), 5 miles from the town of Souillac on the border of the Dordogne and Lot regions. It is actually on the 18 hole course close to the 11th. tee, but not too close. The estate is in an ancient oak forest, and the course was designed by Jeremy Pern. There are approx. 80 lodges on the 120 acre estate arranged in 8 groupings or hamlets. Our hamlet is named LES TILLEULS. There are a total of 9 pools on the estate any of which you may use. Our hamlet is the only one with two pools. All lodges feature top quality fixtures and fittings, and include balconies and terraces. If you refer to the club website you can see that the rental charges demand a top-end specification. (NO CHARGE WILL BE MADE TO HOUSE EXCHANGE VISITORS). Even so rental properties in general often feel cold and impersonal in the interests of easy maintenance and security of assets. Having rented many holiday properties ourselves, we therefore deliberately decided to equip it in the same way as we would if we were living in it permanently. We have had testimonials saying how warm and homely it is. For instance there are many books to read both fiction and non-fiction, loads of toys and computer games for children, and many CD.s and DVD.s to view.

More about us

  1. Wife Pamela, works as an Occupational Health Nurse for an international construction company. Husband worked for Rolls-Royce for 24 years before taking early retirement. Now marking time until real retirement by working in the motor trade for a Ford agent. Daughter Helen is a Chartered Surveyor and comes on holiday with us if we pay for her (nothing changes). We intend to spend more time in France when we eventually retire, but will retain an apartment in England. In addition we would like to see as much of the world as our finances will permit, and perhaps house exchanges will facilitate this plan.

Where is it?

A particular attribute of our site is the quiet environment. With only 80 or so lodges scattered around the 120 acre estate, the only sounds you may hear are birdsong and the gentle rustling of the trees. There are only 11 lodges in our hamlet, so car traffic is very limited. This makes it safer for children, and quiet for adults (forget the rat-race). So there are no car fumes, no noise pollution, and no people pollution. You will also be amazed at the lack of light pollution at night, many more stars are visible.

One of the main reasons we purchased our lodge was because of the picture post-card environment external to our estate. If you can manage to drag yourself away from our haven of tranquility, there is so much to do and see in our region to keep you entertained and informed. There are medieval towns/villages, chateaux and castles, grottos/caves, prehistoric sites, gardens, swimming and adventure parks.
Our lodge is also easy to travel reach, 520 miles from Calais, about 95% motorway, and only about 10 miles from the motorway. Budget airlines serve Limoges & Bergerac both 45 minutes away by car. Paris is 3 hours by car.
