About our home

Our holiday home is a large, stylish two-bed loft apartment in a two-hundred year old converted stone building. The apartment comprises the entire top floor of the building and has a sunny west-facing terrace. We have a large living/dining room, galley kitchen, bathroom and separate WC. Sleeps six - one double bedroom, one twin and a double sofa-bed in the living room. We have recently installed air conditioning in each room. There are just two other apartments in the building and private parking in the courtyard below.

More about us

  1. We are Tom and Anne, a married couple with one teenage daughter, Nanci. Our apartment in Uzès is a holiday home, which we bought in 2002. We spend our Easters and summer holidays there. In 2005, we lived in the apartment for two and a half months. Nanci went to school in the local "école primaire" and we can all speak quite good French. We live in Dublin city and lead very busy lives so the more leisurely pace of Uzès is a nice antidote! (It also rains a lot less!)
We would love to go to Italy during June 2011, preferably within the first two weeks and hope to find a suitable exchange. Uzes is a second home so you can go there anytime. We are all very enthusiastic about doing an exchange, so contact us as soon as possible!

Where is it?

"O little town of Uzès, were you in Umbria, Parisians would flock to visit you." - so said the father of André Gide, whose family were Uzètiens. Perched on a hill, overlooking the Eure valley,(from which Europe takes its name) Duché D'Uzès is famed for being the first Duchy of France. The Duke and his family spend their summers in the beautiful Ducal residence in the historical centre of the town. Uzès [Ooh-Zez] is a lively town, with a thriving Saturday market and many traditional and gourmet restaurants. The town, in a time warp for over a hundred years, was designated a "ville d'art" by the government in the 1960s and since then has been restored and rejuvenated. With a population of over 8,000, Uzès is proud of its rich history and its well-deserved reputation as one of the most beautiful towns in the Midi. Uzès is ideally located for visiting all the wonderful attractions of the South of France. Avignon is just a 30 minute drive, Van Gogh's Arles is about 40 minutes, Chateau-neuf an hour and the amazing Roman aqueduct, Le Pont du Gard is only 10 minutes away. Here you can kayak down the rapids of the river Gard - it's great fun! To the west lies the Cevènnes - a spectacular areas of mountains and gorges, ideal for hiking. The very chic Côte d'Azur is a mere three hours on the motorway - you can breakfast in Uzès and lunch in St Tropez - but if you're like us, you'll be glad to get home to Uzès for dinner. The natives are very friendly and we have made many friends.
