About our home

Hi, We are Rhiannon, Chris, Ewan and our new addition Charlie! Family of four, we are active global travellers and explorers. We own a fantastic three storey, 2.5 bed room, two-bathroom and spa bath clock tower in a restored luxury 5-star rated 17th Century Chateau in the Loire Valley, France. Our place rises out of the moat on great stone foundations and is called Suite Maison Dr Fretigny, but is the original guard tower and then converted Clock Tower of the Chateau grounds.

It offers truly unique accommodation overlooking the front of the Chateau and the garden. This three storey, 2 bedroom plus mezzanine area with two single beds building retains many of its original features including the baronial useable fireplace and wooden panelling on the walls. Views out of the third floor windows are impressive, especially from the step up two person bath. The upstairs bedroom has a separate bathroom and the downstairs bedroom has an ensuite.

The main kitchen caters for up to eight people which includes a stove, oven and microwave with fridge and freezer. On the ground floor, there is a butler’s kitchen with a microwave, mini-fridge and sink. The washer/dryer is in the downstairs area tucked away under then staircase.

You will also have access to the pool, picnic area, Bar, BBQ, moat, caves, salons, library, chapel, terraces, which are available for all guests. You can walk to Vernantes through the forest and drive to Saumur, 20 min away with numerous restaurants, shops and wine tasting.

More about us

  1. We are a family of five, two boys aged 5 and 3 and a little girl called Isla or as the boys call her, baby Isla

  2. Chris and I own a construction company in Canberra

  3. We love unique homes and location that create a sense of peace while having local touches. We are looking at swapping with homes that have at least three bedrooms to cater for my family :)

Where is it?

We are located on the outskirts of a small village which has a few bakeries (amazing!), a local pub, post office, hotel with a very nice restaurant attached called The Pelican and that's pretty much it. The forest is also within our home as well as out and offers some beautiful walks. Vernoil is a village next to ours - around a 20 minute walk away that has a grocery store called Super U, where you can pick up most things you may need. Saumur, the main town, is a 20 minute drive away and has everything you need including a farmers market, you will need to check when it runs. Saumur is also famous for its horse riding school - The Cadre noir of Saumur - and over summer there are a number of events and shows that are worthwhile booking into.
