About our home

Designed and built in 1985, this spacious contemporary family home is very unusual for the area. Before purchasing the house 12 years ago I visited many homes and this one shone out to us. I was drawn in by the light and spaciousness (280 m2) of Akwaba which seems very Californian in style with huge a lofty living room, 5 bed rooms, chic designer kitchen with every mod con imaginable .
The owner, Jaki is Australian and an experienced house swapper. This is our home so the house is well padded with just about every conceivable comfort such as water softener, salt water pool, FANTASTIC out side shower, lovely grounds, bikes, boules, badminton, ping pong and the list goes on ! I have noticed myself that these sort of pleasures can be missing in a rental and this is our home. We are only interested in direct swaps to NYC this summer.
There are five bedrooms upstairs, two with en suite shower rooms and a beautiful out door shower under the trees. We have a deep bath too, and 2 seperate WCs. Solar hot water. Water purifier for all bath rooms, plus kitchen and a Berkey water filter for our drinking water.
In addition to the main lounge room there are several terraces and shady comfy nooks attached to the house and scattered around the garden to chill out. The mezzanine space is great for kids to hang enjoy a book, TV or a sieste.
The 60 square metre salt water pool is a lovely pool to cool off in and enjoy. The recently renovated pool house, ( photos to come) is once more a lovely place to chill. Exercise bike within to work off those French cheeses! The house benefits from a water purifier (kitchen and sanitary) and 3500 sq metres of enclosed garden. Cleaning lady included ( at my expense) in any swap so you can really enjoy the venue and the break away from your daily life.
The area ( alpes de hautes Provence) is amazing for out doorsy types- famous for gliding, biking, markets, hiking, lakes, festivals or just enjoying a book by the pool. Inland, the views of the plateaux and Alps are huge and wonderful. First area for organic farming in France ; there is a wonderful array of brilliant, local organic produce. The house itself is very user friendly and has been successful in the vacation rental market. The garden is fully enclosed with Wendy house, salt water pool (without fence, so kids should be over 10 and your responsibility) . No vis à vis, so very private, with a view of a 15th century perched village of Villeneuve. Plenty of shade, private spots, wrap around terrace and BBQ.
The Luberon is so beautiful at any time of the year, average number of sunny days: 320!
Handy to Aix en Provence, Avignon, Forcalquier and more!

Weekly cleaning free is 100 euros

Where is it?

We overlook the C15th village of Villeneuve ( there are 30 Villeneuves in France) , ours is in the Alpes de Haute Provence; 45 minutes from Aix en Provence town or TGV station, and about an hour ( depending on traffic) from Marseilles, our closest airport. It is very quiet here, with birds and cigadas being the most insistent noise source. The days are long and hot in summer and the house is beautifully cool and breezy
There is an impressive scattering of festivals, markets and summer events around us...We are not far from the A51 autoroute so acess to Aix en Provence, Avignon, the Gorges de Verdon or the coast makes for lovely day trips
