About our home
Our two-story house with 180,00 m2 and a lange garden with 1.000,00 m2 combines a remodeled older part with wooden floor and the new modern part. I designed it as an architect und my husband who has workes as a chef at "The Waldorf NYC" had the idea to build it around the big professional kitchen. Because we like to cook together with friends. In our garden we have a small house with the sauna. We live in a quiet part in the west of Hamburg but also very close by car, bus or ferry into the city center. Our neighbors are very helpful and like to play music. In the summer time you can hear the piano over the road and we have a lot of barbecues (braai) and at one weekend a street party with all neighbors. You can reach the river Elbe in 10min by car (4,9km). The harbour in Wedel is 25min away by car. In a walking distance you can enjoy beautiful parks like the Volkspark with the dahlia garden, Lise-Meitner-Park and Jenischpark. By car you can drive to the city center in 18min (9,2 km). You also have the possibility to go by ferry boat into the city to the "Elbphilharmonie". Very close are the football and ice-hockey stadium and the horse racing track.

When you arrive, you will find books about Hamburg.
Here is a short list over things we recommend to do in Hamburg.
• eat a good meal in a nice restaurant, maybe in one of the famous TV chefs Tim Mälzer, Steffen Henssler or one of the star restaurants
• climb the top of church MICHEL and hear the trumpeter weekdays at 10am and 9pm and sundays at noon 12 o’clock, this is an old tradition since more than 300 years
• see the river Elbe and the inner city sea Alster
• go shopping at the Mönckebergstraße and Jungfernstieg
• visit Travemünde and St. Peter Ording (to play on the beaches and do some water sports), Lübeck (to see the historic city center and taste some marzipan) and Schwerin (to visit the castle with 365 towers and see Giuseppe Verdi‘s monumental opera „Aida“ at the castle festival)
You also can visit our neighboring countries Denmark 2 hours by car, Netherlands 3 hours and Poland 4 hours also Scandinavia within reach by car and ferry into 5 hours. We also have five apartments into the city for an non-simultaneous exchange www.urban-stay.de (for a points swap on non-simultaneous dates)

“It was wonderful - we would like to stay there again. We felt at home, enjoyed cooking and living there very much!:-)”
“A fabulous points swap for us. Thanks so much for lending us your lovely home Anke and family. We received a lovely welcome from Clara and found the house to be spotless and all ready for us! The location was perfect (close to green space, supermarket and bus route into the city) Anke was on hand to answer questions and give advice and we had a thoroughly fantastic 6 days in Hamburg. Thanks again, Sarah and family ”
“Better than pictures!!!!! One of the better houses we had ever visited!!!! Arquitectural design!!! The kitchen is wonderfull, nice views when you cook. Incredible garden. Lot of toys for kids. Good location to explore Hamburg. We firmly recomend it. Its a must. Lu”
“Loved everything about this place, location, apartment, hospitality of the owners. We thank you both for a great memory in Hamburg-Altona. Coffee shops and restaurants, train station and all sorts of shops, cobble stone streets...just loved it!”
“Our stay at Anke and Ulf's beautiful home was really perfect. Anke organized it so that we were met by Oma and had the use of her nice car while they were abroad. The house was easily located with the handy GPS and we were delighted to find everything we could possibly imagine or need for a very comfortable stay right there. The grocery store was just a couple of minutes walk away and all the information was well organized in a folder for us with books and maps about Hamburg. We really appreciated their thoughtfulness. While their home is located outside the city, we found the quiet neighbourhood suited us perfectly and we used their uber-deluxe bikes to navigate the city! Thanks so much for making our visit to Hamburg extra wonderful, Anke and Ulf!”
“We loved our time in Hamburg! Anke-doreen had both her mom and her nephew check in on us to make sure everything was running smoothly. Our kids loved the back garden with basketball hoop. And we were incredibly grateful to use their car to get around. The house is beautifully designed. Of all the home swaps we've done, we felt the most welcome here with the fridge stocked, maps and goodies to help welcome us to beautiful Hamburg! The house is a bit out of the way - nothing is really super close. But again the use of the car was very helpful and we were able to be at the major destinations in 10-15 minutes.”
“I did the exchange for my brother and his family. They loved the apartment, it was very clean and spacious. The hosts were very kind and accommodating. My brother and his family with 3 young kids were met by the host who came to pick them up from the train staytion which I consider it was beyond the call of duty. Even though the weather wasn’t corporative during their stay they had a great visit. Thank you Anke - doreen for being so kind and generous. ”
“Wonderful hosts' home with all the comforts lending to an extended stay. The compact car BMW was easy to use. Home is only 2 blocks away from the nearest bus stop which allowed us to take to a central bus station to connect to other parts of the city Hamburg when we didn't want to drive. Hosts' communication was super. A very nice, comfortable home designed by host herself that's away from the hustle and bustle of downtown but easily accessible to major sights of the city.”
“very nice people, great guests”
“Han sido muy educados y han cuidado perfectamente la casa. No tengo ninguna queja.”
