About our home

Comfortable, spacey (80m²) apartment just south of Freiburg in Germany. The apartment is a maisonette over 2 levels, 1 bedroom with large double bed, and a double sofa bed in the living room. The living room has a good stereo, projector and DVD player. There is high speed internet. The kitchen is fully equipped for good cooking, also with Dishwasher (no microwave). There is then one bathroom (with washing machine) and a dining room. I also have a very large comfortable balcony for BBQing, sunny breakfast and so on. There is one parking space, but no garden space unfortunately. But there is plenty of nature around us with many surrounding vineyards, rolling hills, farms and even good hiking mountains to over 1000m. Optional car, a 10 year old BMW 318i, very comfortable for up to 4 people. It is insured for drivers over 25 years old. Pets are not possible. For the kids is good here. Too noisy in the appartment after about 9pm is not so good, the neighbours young child sleeps directly next to my living room. No television, but I hope you won't need one!

More about us

  1. I am Evan and with my travel partner Karin (a good friend) we are either side of 40. Both non-smokers and would also request no smoking in the apartment. We are quiet, easy going, clean and respectful of your property, as we would wish for mine. We both like nature, walking, horse riding, swimming, photography and so on. Occasional good music, good food and wine for an evening at home. We are not so flexible for 2009 with timing (just July) or destination (just Iceland already booked). We would be happy to get in contact beforehand by mail or phone. We are not by the sea, but I (Evan) come from Sydney, and apart from a couple of times per year, I don't miss the sea as there are enough other things to here, like the swiss alps! To swim or scuba dive I go in the local lakes. If an exchange works out, there would be the possibility to stay in contact about an exchange in Australia in a couple of years time.

Where is it?

The major town of Freiburg is approx. 30 Minutes drive and Basel 40 Minutes. The French border is only 5 minutes drive, and the Swiss border is at Basel. Many things to do including Colmar, Strassbourg and the Alsace region in France (Vosges Mountains). Or Stein am Rhine, The Rhine Waterfalls not far away in Switzerland. The Black Forrest is of course also very beautiful. A little further away are the areas of Interlaken in the Swiss alps (Mönch, Eiger, Jungfrau, Jungfraujoch Train) (2 hours), the Matterhorn (3 hours), Zürich (1.5 hours), and maybe Lake Maggiore, Ticino area around 3-4 hours away. Around me are smaller towns, but the shopping is good. Nearby is a very historical town of Sulzburg and just beyond (15 Minutes walk) is the base of the mountains of the Black Forrest. There are many thermal baths, open air baths and you can also swim in the small quarry lakes around here. A good train connection is at Heitersheim about 5km from here. Many good restaurants like the popular Straussis here (own produce and wine). Also search Colmar, Interlaken, Lake Maggiore, Staufen, St Blasien, Lake Constance. Bike ways are great here for bikes or inlline skates. Kaiser Stuhl is a good day trip from here, with famous German wines, and officially the warmest, sunniest region of Germany.
