We have been living in our apartment for seven years now and are very happy here. It's a classic early 20th century Berlin flat with high ceilings and wooden floor in most of the rooms. The bedroom also contains a 60x120cm toddler's bed (that can either be attached to the parent's bed or stand on its own), the children's room is currently inhabited by a four year old, who leaves us some space to also use it as a small office. The bed in the children's room consists of two regular 90x200cm beds, that can either stay on top of each other or form standing next to each other a double bed. For three or so people there is room to eat in the kitchen, otherwise there is a big dining table in the living room that can fold out to accomodate 10 or so people. The balcony is quite small, with sun in the morning and seating for two people. You could use our bicycles, which we feel is really the best way to move around in Berlin, if needed including a bike trailer or bike seat for children.
We are a family of four - Petra works as a curator, Lena as a paediatrician, our older son is five years old and our second son is two. We'd ideally exchange with other families, because we found that it's just much easier to enjoy happy holidays when there is a childfriendly home and much loved toys awaiting you. We would love to travel to Brittany and Cornwall in June but we are also open to suggestions, to other times and places.
We live in Berlin's "Kreuzkölln" neighbourhood, a few years back a rather poor area that has been heavily gentrified in the meantime and now is one of the most popular areas of Berlin. Nearby there are lots of restaurants and cafes, lots of independent cinemas, lots of playgrounds, two very good markets just around the corner, among them the very popular Markt am Maybachufer, which used to be a Turkish food and fabric market and now grew into a large market, offering also organic stuff, lots of food and music. For walks there is the Landwehrkanal just around the corner, and larger parks in walking distance like Hasenheide and Görlitzer Park. The next U-Bahn station Schönleinstr. is just around the corner, with links to central Berlin.
