About our home

Our 90m2 apartment is a beautiful, renovated "Altbau" apartment built in the early 1900s. The apartment is on the 2nd floor (3rd floor for Americans) and has hardwood floors, 2 bedrooms, 2 balconies and is fully furnished.

It is the ideal apartment for a small family, with one large bedroom with a 160x200cm bed and another smaller bedroom with bunk beds for kids. There is also an extra mattress for one available.

There is a large living area with a large table, flat screen TV (various stations available, including some English speaking such as CNN and BBC) and a Blu-ray/DVD player.

The kitchen includes an induction stove, oven, large refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine - all high quality. There is also a small 'breakfast table' as well as everything necessary to cook and enjoy meals.

The bathroom has a bathtub and shower combination.

Included with the apartment is high speed Wi-Fi and telephone.

As we have 2 girls aged 5 years and 7 years, the apartment has everything one would need if traveling with younger children, including a diaper changing table, toys, bikes, scooters, stroller which fits 2 kids, etc. Also have adult bikes available with child seats (stroller also connects to bikes as a trailer).

More about us

  1. We are a married couple in our mid 30s with two girls aged 6 years and 8 years. We love our apartment and will treat your home with the same care and respect as ours.

We did an exchange with a family in Switzerland in the summer of 2013 and a family in the Netherlands in the summer of 2014 and we had a fantastic time. We are very much looking forward to exchanging again!

Where is it?

The apartment is located on a quiet street in the center of Berlin near the beautiful and lively "Bergmannkiez" in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The area surrounding the apartment is like an open-air museum, with old ("Altbau") restored buildings from the early 20th century, cobblestone streets and gas lanterns.

Right around the corner, there are numerous restaurants, cafes, bars, playgrounds, grocery stores (including the fantastic market hall with numerous local and international specialties). There is also a bakery right on the corner (open early every day). Every Saturday there is also a street market on Chamissoplatz (2 minute walk) selling organic fruits, vegetables, meat and other foods.

There are many playgrounds (the next one on Chamissoplatz with a water pump and fountain), two outdoor swimming pools and four nice parks within easy walking distance: Victoriapark with the Kreuzberg waterfall, Hasenheide, Park am Gleisdreieck, and Tempelhofer Feld (the old Tempelhof airport, now a public park). The latter offers not only a unique experience to walk on the old airplane runways, but also numerous options such as biking, rollerblading, kite flying etc as well as a beer garden and a collection of urban gardens growing a wide variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs.

Public transportation is readily available, making it easy to reach anywhere in the city easily. The U-Bahn lines U7 (East-West) and U6 (North-South) are within 5-10 minutes walking distance and allow for easy connection to and from the airports and main railway stations. There is also a direct bus to Alexanderplatz a few minutes away.

Berlin is a pretty green city with many parks and lakes you can swim in. For a change of scenery, you can visit scenic Potsdam with Sanssouci within half an hour, Spreewald with its winding waterways within an hour, as well as many lakes - all by train.
