Beautiful apartment in the heart of Berlin-Kreuzberg, Bergmannkiez
Our apartment is light and spacious, furnished with Design pieces and artworks. All rooms have wooden floors, typical Berlin boards and parquet floor; bath and rest room are equipped with natural stone. Four rooms plus an open kitchen. Looking out of our windows you have a panoramic view onto the Marheinekeplatz. No house directly in front of you. The place has trees, a playground, a rose-bed and a greenfield. Our house was built in 1910 and was renovated in 2010. Our apartment is on the second floor, bus as the ceilings in this house are high, it feels like third floor. We have one children room, which we also sometimes use as guest room with a 140cm x 200cm bed, a parents bedroom with a 180cm x 200cm bed, a dining room, a living room, a kitchen, one bathroom and one extra lavatory.
Even if we live in the very heart of a vibrant area, our direct neighbourhood has relaxing areas and is safe.
The next tube station is two minutes walk away. From there it takes only three stops to station Stadtmitte: Stepping out can stroll along the Friedrichstrasse with all its exclusive shops like Quartier 206 with Department store and the extraordinary Berlin Galeries Lafayette. From Stadtmitte you are in five minutes walk at "Unter den Linden" or at Potsdamer Platz and in ten minutes walk at station Friedrichstrase. From there you have connections to everywhere in the city.
Berlin's liveliest, hippest neighbourhood
Our apartment is located in the center of Berlin in the so-called Bergmannkiez (Kiez: quarter), in a multicultural and friendly neighbourhood. The whole area is famous for its nice cafés, restaurants, bars, fashion- vintage- vinyl and antique shops, also for a traditional comic book shop and galleries. Every weekend there is a nice flea market at the Marheinekeplatz. The church Passionskirche (which is known for its extra-ordinary atmosphere and excellent acoustic) is a famous venue for world music and Jazz concerts. Due modern technique, there is no noise.
Largely undamaged, the Bergmannkiez retains much of its splendid late 19th century architecture, with elaborately stuccoed facades. The side streets lying just to the south of Bergmanstrasse are also worth to see, especially around Chamissoplatz provide a fascinating glimpse of historic Berlin.
The Bergmannstrasse is passing Marheinekeplatz. But parts are traffic calmed. One side of the Berg-mannstrasse is lively and the other calm along a beautiful old cemetery, with very old mausoleum and even a café. Green oasis are close, two big parcs, Hasenheide and Viktoriapark and the Landwehr Canal, built around 1850 according to plans by Peter Joseph Lenné. A public swimming pool is not far away, by foot 15-20 min. Also close: The so-called Tempelhofer Freiheit, the former airport, which turned into a big open space, larger than New York City’s Central Park, for public use. Visitors today can enjoy there cycling- skating- jogging trails and an urban gardening section.
Right in front of our house there is the recently renovated Marheinekeplatz with a rose-bed, a greenfield and a nice playground, with an area to sit outside next to the famous markethall. The markethall is a hot spot for having lunch, many nationalities offer their traditional food for a convenient price, fresh fruits, vegetables and more. There is no lack of organic food markets or anything else one needs. Just next to our house you find a café with a barista master, preparing the best coffee. An ideal starting point to discover Kreuzberg's Bergmannkiez.
