About our home

Our home is set in a former factory building in Berlin, neukölln. Being a graphic designer and artist, we were looking for a place where we have enough space to be able to work and live. We found this flat in 2011 by chance and restored it ourselves in the best possible way. The result is a huge ground floor loft with a feeling of spaciousness and wideness, high ceilings, open kitchen, a garden and a vintage twist. Since our daughter has been born in March 2014, the apartment became since much more of a family home than a graphic design studio :-) the flat has 160 sm altogether, and basically consist of one large lofty room that is comparted into different areas (dining; kitchen; relaxing/sofa area; sleeping and working) and an extra smaller room (20sm) that hosts a 1,40m double bed that can be used as childrens-, guest- or bedroom.
If you love to cook, it is a joy to use the big kitchen with view towards the whole flat. Our dining table is very big and would host up to 12 eaters comfortably. we enjoy our evenings on our huge sofa that invites to hang out and relax. If you feel like working, make use of the spacious desk. The sleeping area hosts a 1,60 m double bed, all our books and some colourful lights. The bathroom is cozy and just the right size, it has a bathtub and also the washing machine and the dryer stand here, which you can make use of.
Our terrace leads into a small garden where we grow some flowers and sometimes vegetables. (This year, we didn't get round to plant anything yet - shame on us) there is a table, chairs and a sun protection - a lovely place where we enjoy evening nights with a cold drink. In the winter, our flat is rather bright and we get direct sun, whilst on a hot summer day, we have a comfortably cool flat where you can escape the heat waves that hit Berlin every summer and enjoy the sun in doses when you hang out in the garden.

More about us

  1. We are a married female gay couple in our 30ies, Gesine and Nina, and our baby daughter of 3 months. We both work as freelancers (graphic designer, journalist) which gives us the opportunity to be rather flexible in our holidays. When in Berlin, we really enjoy the galleries, theatres and good/experimental food-places here. Since we have a little baby, we are exploring the "childrens Berlin" - a whole new side. We love cooking, eating with friends, gardening, internet, be out in nature and watch birds, go for long walks, and read a good book. And of course we like to travel. We are especially interested Scandinavian countries, but we would also love to go to wales, Cornwall, Scotland, Iceland, Japan, Portland or surprise us. In the summer 2014 we are looking for a stay in Copenhagen for some weeks. We consider ourselves responsible, clean, friendly and would of course treat your home respectfully and careful.

Where is it?

Berlin Neukölln is a vibrant area that underwent a massive change within the last 5 years from a rather poor area to a hotspot for young artists and creatives from around the world. Our flat is situated in Neukölln (metro: S/U bahn Neukölln) - a bit off the main streets where the change has just begun. We are 15 min. walk from the historical center of Neukölln "Richardplatz", which is one of the upcoming neighbourhoods in Berlin. Everyday there is a new bar- or shop opening around the area. You have a lovely public garden there, and lots of cafes - also a lot of vegan places to go. If you want to walk a bit further (20 min) you are in "Tempelhofer field" - a huge area of the former city airport that is open to the public now and an amazing recreation area for sports, picknick or long walks. If you want to take off to the center of Berlin, you have the "Ringbahn" just next door. This public transport brings you around Berlin very quickly - whether you want to go north or south. The "U bahn" is also just down the street, and only two stops away, you find yourself in the pulse of "Kreuzkölln" (Herrmannplatz or 4 stops to Kottbusser tor) – where you find the best restaurants, (rooftop)bars, and nightlife in this upcoming area.
