Our cosy, yet spacious apartment is located on the first floor of an old building so very typical for Berlin and its traditional houses from the late 19th century. The apartment has thick brick walls, high ceilings, wooden floors, stucco, 3 tiled stoves next to central heating, a spacious bathroom with bathtub, an extra toilet outside the apartment in the corridor of the house, a kitchen that seats three people and 2 large bedrooms. The apartment has lots of nice wooden furniture, a comfortable leather couch, a dining table that seats up to 12 people, two large beds and additional mattresses as well as a child's bed. The apartment is very quiet, yet located in one of the most popular areas of town. The windows of the kitchen, the living room and the 1st bedroom are facing the street, the other windows of the bathroom and the 2nd bedroom are facing the inner courtyard. The apartment is located on the first floor of the house above a quiet lock and key service that opens between Mon - Fri.
We are Maren and Norbert, with our 4 year old daughter Nila. We are in our mid forties and are both professionals (anthropologist and political scientist who runs a fair-trade company). We love to travel and to learn more about other cultures so that we prefer a home swap to an anonymous hotel. We offer a nice, cosy, well-kept apartment and hope to find something similar in return....
Our apartment is located in one of the most favourite neighbourhoods of Berlin, in Friedrichshain. Many good bars, restaurants and clubs are in walking distance (10 to 15 min) as well as the subway and the tram. The famous "Volkspark Friedrichshain", one of the nicest parks in Berlin, is only a few minutes away as well as e.g. a supermarket, small restaurants, bakeries, pharmacies, a 100 year old cinema,... Despite its central location right near the "Frankfurter Türme" and the famous Karl-Marx-Allee, our broad street is very quiet and has a nice Berlin feel to it. All interesting areas of Berlin can be reached within 20 minutes by public transport or bike, such as Berlin Mitte (Alexanderplatz, Berlin Dome, Museum's Island, Unter den Linden,...), Prenzlauer Berg or Kreuzberg. The famous East-Side-Gallery (the longest stretch of the Berlin Wall still in existence) is only 15 min. away as well as the Spree river with its Oberbaumbrücke, arguably the most beautiful bridge in Berlin. In short, the apartment is perfectly located for people "who want to see and do it all" without having to travel too much within the city, who like to ride their bikes or take public transport to places as well as for people who like to do sports as you can e.g. run in the nearby park, go for a swim in the nearby indoor-swimmingpool (50m lanes)or go to one of the many yoga classes offered in the neighbourhood. The nearby area around Boxhagenerplatz is filled with bars, cafes and small shops. Saturdays is an especially popular day thanks to the extensive farmers market, offering everything from seasonal fruit and veg to flowers, deli food and home made arts and crafts. On Sundays there is a small flea market worth strolling around. For people who like to go clubbing, the Berghain, located in a former heat and power plant with 18 m high ceilings, supposedly the best club not only in Berlin but in the whole of Europe, is just around the corner as well as many others...
