About our home

I live in a spacious (approx 100 sq m), two-storey flat in the charming village of Drais, with a rural feel yet only 20 minutes to the Mainz town centre. It is very lovingly decorated in a colourful, cosy, rustic style, with lots of plants, wood, and natural light. Large, comfortable kitchen with excellent cooking facilities; very spacious living room with musical instruments (piano, guitar, hand drums); large master bedroom with big window and very comfy king size bed; colourful, cosy children's bedroom (sleeps 2) and quirky, fun attic bedroom/creative studio (sleeps 2). Ceramic terracotta tiled floors and wooden beams on ceiling. I have a large balcony AND a large garden (shared with neighbours who are lovely!)

More about us

  1. I'm a classical singer, originally from London but moved to Germany 10 years ago. I have two daughters aged 5 and 9.

  2. I'd really like to make a nostalgic trip back to the UK this summer with my two daughters and my mum, so have come on this site in the hope of finding somewhere to stay.

  3. I take real pleasure and joy in making my home cosy and beautiful, and I think you'll notice that as soon as you walk in! I love all things homely - especially cooking, baking, knitting and crochet!

Where is it?

The flat is located in the sweet village of Drais (3000 inhabitants). Although it has a very peaceful, rural feel, it's also only 17 minutes by bus (every half hour) to the centre of the historic Roman town of Mainz, and less than an hour from Frankfurt Airport. There is a supermarket and a lovely farm shop 5 minutes' walk away. There are beautiful walks on the doorstep, either across the fields with sweeping views of the Rhine valley, or through the woods.

Mainz, the main town, has all the shops, cafes, restaurants etc one could want, plus beautiful walks or boat trips along the river Rhine. It has a stunning cathedral, a thriving market three days a week, and lots of historic architecture, half-timbered houses and cobbled streets with interesting independent shops. It is also home to fascinating Roman ruins and the Gutenberg Museum commemorating Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press, who lived here in the Middle Ages.
