About our home

Our spacious three level house has kept its original charm with high ceilings and wooden staircase, floors and doors. But it contains all modern conveniences: insulated windows, new bathrooms, modern kitchen, central heating, television and internet connections on all floors. The first one contains a large study and living room, with access to a small backyard, a small kitchen, storage and bathroom. The second floor houses the main kitchen, another bath, a fifty sqm living and dining room with fire place, a balcony overlooking a city park and forest, and a large terrace. The third level includes a bath and three bedrooms.

More about us

  1. We, Helmut and Monika Girndt, met in Berkeley 1967; she as a student of literature and me as a postdoctoral. Because of a professorship in Germany we left California. Free now from obligations we like to stay again where we spent happy days. Still engaged in teaching and learning, exploring the outer and inner world, we love art, music and philosophy and enjoy inviting friends and interesting company.

Where is it?

We live in a favourite neighbourhood of Düsseldorf at the end of a cul-de-sac. Despite walking distance to city park and forest it is only a few steps away from business life with good restaurants and fifteen minutes away from downtown by public transportations. The city is lively and pleasant, hospitable and open minded, beautiful due to many parks and its unique shopping boulevard. As capital of the most densely populated state of Germany Dusseldorf is a centre of commerce, international exhibitions, fashion fairs and sports. Together with neighbouring cities of Essen, (a Unesco world heritage centre), Cologne – founded 38 B.C. - and Bonn (only 50 min away) the Northern Rhine province is a most important cultural centre, with invaluable museums, internationally outstanding exhibitions of ancient, modern and contemporary art, numerous theatres, opera houses, concert halls, art academies and universities. Düsseldorf is, together with its neighbouring cities a must for everyone culturally interested. Amsterdam is only two hours away!
