About our home

Built in 1994, this beautiful apartment in the heart of the Black Forest is on the top floor of a three-story home; the bottom two floors are occupied by permanent tenants. Kids are welcome but since there are tenants below they prefer older kids who aren't running around the apartment. 8-10 and above is the preferred age for children.
It is in a quiet village at the top of a hill with great views. In winter, you can see the Alps and, if you're lucky, the beautiful Alpenglow that occurs before sunset. It's close to lakes and skiing--Titisee-Neustadt and Feldberg ski areas are nearby. The delightful university town of Freiburg is ½ hour away. The Swiss border and cosmopolitan Basel and Zurich are a little over an hour, as is the Alsace region of France.
The hiking here is the best; one two hour hike takes you to a mountain farmhouse with a great menu to satisfy for the return trip, and there are several others like it. The "Badeparadies"in Titisee is an awesome place for adults to sauna and kids to play on the water slides. All in all, this is a wonderful home base for the Black Forest, as well as to explore Switzerland, France, and the gorgeous Lake District in northern Italy, as well as for simply relaxing in a beautiful environment.
This is a quiet retreat, and while you can easily drive to big cities (including Zurich and Basel, Switzerland, and Frieburg), it is a perfect place to curl up with a book, looking up at the beautiful view whenever you want, hiking and enjoying the serene Black Forest, and in summer, walking down to the outdoor swimming center in town which is solar heated.
The kitchen is fully equipped, and there's a wonderful organic grocery store a quick drive away in Neustadt. You can also shop at Aldi and the fully-equipped German chain Edeka. The cafe down the hill has a very small selection of groceries, though probably enough for a simple picnic. The cable selection is excellent, and you can channels in English, Spanish, French, and Italian in addition to German. We also have a DVD/VHS player that can play either PAL or NTSC. We also have high speed internet service which is very reliable.
