Our apartment is spread over two storeys in a building from 1720! We have three bedrooms upstairs with five beds to sleep in and a baby bed. There is a large dining room and a cosy kitchen, equipped with all the features you need for your comfort (especially the nice saeco coffee maker!). The comfortable living room has a big sofa, TV, VCR, DVD and an office area with a high speed internet PC. On the same level there is a seperate toilet and upstairs we have a bathroom with bathtub and a window, that overlooks the roofs of the old city of Heidelberg. Living in such a medieval house with its wooden floors and typical ceilings and still enjoying the modern standarts, such as central heating, endless hot water, cable TV etc. is really special!
I am a PhD in protestant Theology at Heidelberg University and my husband designs and constructs fireplaces of all sorts. Larissa is 14 years old and Rebekka, who will be starting school this year, just turned 6 years old. We love to travel, especially to the middle east, to see and experience the culture and history of that wonderful part of the world. We already had two great Exchanges with one wonderful family from Northern Israel and another great family from central Jerusalem so we have experienced how good the Concept of home-exchange really is.
Heidelberg is an old University town and so it`s residents, especially of the old city, consists of mostly high educated and international people. It has a very friendly and homey atmosphere where all neighbours know each other. Our apartment is situated right in the center of the old city, just two minutes walk to the city hall and the beautiful market place with a lot of cafés, bars and restaurants and it is still very quiet! After a 20 minute walk uphill you will be at the famous castle with its great garden and just down the street you will be at the banks of the Neckar river. Along the pedestrian area (Hauptstrasse) you will find theaters, movie theaters, museums, galleries, more cafés and restaurants and a lot of shops. Besides enjoing life in the old city, Heidelberg is the ideal starting point for day trips to France, Switzerland or just the Black Forest...
