About our home

Our idyllic wooden house offers generous space to 6-7 people as well as beautiful views onto the Wohlenberger Wiek, a Baltic Sea bay 12km west of the Hanseatic city of Wismar. The beach is just 400m away.

The house is light and specious, yet cosy. We have four bedrooms: one master bedroom with a double bed, two children's bedrooms (one single bed each plus one pull-out bed) and one study, which has a fold-out sofa bed. The ground floor features a large open kitchen/dining area with the latest cooking appliances and a living area with wooden floors and a fire-place. There are two bathrooms: one small one on the ground floor with a sink, toilet and shower, and the main bathroom upstairs with a double-sink, toilet, bath and shower.

The garden offers a large terrace facing south and a lawn with plenty of space for ball games. In the summer, there are also a swimming pool, a table tennis table and a trampoline for additional outdoor fun. The balcony, facing north-west, is the perfect place to enjoy the beautiful sunsets overlooking the bay.

Our house comes with a lovely cat named Tigger who is very social and loving yet independent and extremely easy to look after. We would kindly ask you to feed him twice a day and to give him the occasional stroke. There is no need for cat toilet cleaning; he only goes outside.

More about us

  1. We are Mark and Ina, a professional German/English couple with two boys born in 2003 and 2007. Oh, and our lovely tomcat, Tigger, who will be staying in the house while we go travelling. (He likes being around people a lot and loves being stroked but is also out a lot of the time, esp. in the warmer months.)

We love a perfect mix of activity and relaxation :-)
The location of our home reflects our interests: We enjoy nature and wildlife, being out on the water, taking pictures, walking and hiking, yoga, gardening, music, cosy winter evenings in front of the fire with a good book or film... In short, we enjoy peace and quiet as an offset to working and schooling in Wismar and Hamburg. And then there is travelling of course - a passion for all four of us!

We have had three fantastic exchanges already (southern France, Britanny and Copenhagen) and are in love with this way of discovering new places! It´s like getting the best of both worlds: knowing our home, garden and cat are looked after while finding other homes away from home (which we will of course treat with the same care and respect - if not more - as our own).

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

There are many beaches in the immediate vicinity and the shallow water of the bay makes for the perfect beach holidays (not only) with younger children. Two campsites at a 1km distance each feature snack bars, small restaurants, mini-shops as well as boat rental and a surf school. The village, Beckerwitz, is 1.5km away and has a shop, bike rental and a small restaurant. In the next village, Hohen Wieschendorf, there is a nice Italian restaurant in the marina and right on the beach.

Our house is located directly on the Ostseeküsten-Radweg, a 1000km bicycle touring path along the Baltic Sea coast. Around the Wohlenberger Wiek, there are many more opportunities for free time activities such as wind surfing, kite surfing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, (mini) golf, carting and many more. Inland, there are numerous beautiful lakes for swimming, walking and relaxing, and all around you find gently rolling hills and unspoilt nature. Wildlife is abundant around here including deer, wild geese, cranes, wild boar, foxes, martens, and racoons. Plus the occasional dolphin or porpoise in the bay.

Ideally located as a touring place, Wismar, an old Hanseatic city and UNESCO World heritage site, is 12 km from here and offers a cinema, a water park, a small zoo, a science museum and much more.

Lübeck and Rostock, both Hanseatic cities too, can be reached within under an hour. The city of Hamburg with its most recent tourist attraction, the new Philharmonic (Elbphilharmonie), can also easily be reached by train or car in just 80 minutes.

The federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has developed into Germany's favourite state for holidays. Beautiful, varied nature and wildlife, well-maintained old towns and cities, a good tourist infrastructure and an abundance of possibilities for both activities and relaxation attract an ever-increasing number of people. Thanks to the large open spaces in this part of Germany it never feels too crowded though.

We don't have many immediate neighbours, but the ones we do have are super friendly and very helpful! Our "next-door neighbour" on the right is a youth hostel, by the way, so there is always a lot going on around us in the summer. But don't worry, we have never had any problems with noise. (Those who come on holiday to this area aren't the ones to favour loud music and partying all night long.)
