About our home

Our home is located in a quiet cul de sac and set in a large private garden, populated with mature native trees and with the terrace opening onto a large sunny lawned area. The open space is popular with (small)bats, red squirrels, the occasional rabbit and a range of bird life.
Its 220 sq. m of modern architectural living space is on one level, centred around a large light living room with panorama windows on two sides. The well equipped open kitchen which caters equally for the experienced cook and the dedicated snack maker has its own private and lit terraced area. The four bedrooms that are available to you are quiet and well appointed with firm and comfortable double beds and adequate storage space. The large bathroom is equipped with both a walk in shower and large bath tub, washbasin and WC. A second adjacent WC is adjacent to the bathroom.
In the cellar you will find a well equipped washing cellar with washing machine and dryer.
A fifth room with additional sleeping space and an additional bathroom can also be made available for large visiting families. It is possible that one member of the family may occupy the seperate flat (with seperate entrance during some of the exchange period), though it is very probable that he shall be away overseas.( Don't worry I am tame and English and in all probably down under in Oz.)

Cable, interactive TV and Satellite TV, broad band internet access, dozens of English language DVDs and a fine selection of English board games will ensure that you are well entertained. There are strong reading lights and well stuffed designer sofas located at strategic positions around the house. Comfortable bicycles are available for your use. For men there is the bar-b-que outside and for the ladies a choice of sun lounger’s. Sorry no pool but who’s perfect?

Where is it?

Kaarst is a small but well served and restful centre with a feel of a village and the amenities of a large city. It is close to the state capital of Düsseldorf (in what was the Roman part of Germany) with super road rail and airport connections. The region is flat and encourages exploration by bicycle. A short ride across traffic free field ways and you find yourself on the River Rhine where, after a short meander along one of the dedicated cycle path, a traditional Rhine ferry brings you into the charming, historical customs town of Konigswert with its history of kidnap, good food and taxation or you can cycle upstream in the direction of Switzerland, through the Rhine park and into Düsseldorf’s old centre.

While fashion centre Düsseldorf offers the old town charm, the royal palace and the "Kö" with its luxury stores and the Asian flair of the largest Japanese community in Europe, we recommend for the bargain hunter a short drive down the motorway and over the border into Holland where in Roermond on the Maas river, one can enjoy one of Europe’s largest discount shopping regions.
Kaarst is also close to the historical world culture cities of Aachen and Cologne, where one can visit the home of Charlamagne or the last resting place of the biblical three kings.
