Our beautiful apartment is our pride and joy.
It was built in 1934, completely renovated late 2010 and is situated on the 3rd floor. Measuring a total of 104 sqm, all rooms including the wide corridor are generously proportioned which is typical of this bauhaus-style building commonly found our area of Cologne. The living and lounge rooms face the front and are vis a vis the university library. The spacious balcony is accessible from the kitchen and bedroom which together with bathroom ensuite are facing southeast and floodlit from early morning until late afternoon. As from ca. 5pm, the sun comes around to the front side and lights up the dining and living rooms. I like to bathe in this afternoon sunlight on the couch!
The apartment features:
-high ceilings 290cm
-large, modern, soundproof double-glazed windows (2017!)
-stunning oak floorboards
-20sqm bedroom with a built-in wall to wall wardrobe & a large bath in bathroom ensuite
-double bed: 160cmx 200cm
-guest bathroom including shower & WC
-an open-plan modern kitchen which is well equipped with high-end appliances such as Miele dishwasher & induction stove, Siemens oven, Vitamix Blender, Gaggia coffee machine etc. and a walk-in pantry
-separate laundry closet containing Miele washing machine & dryer
-3 large 1930's glass doors opening out from corridor into diningroom
- 45 sqm dining/living area which can be made into 2 separate rooms with the quick assembly of 4 high-tech sliding door panels, which can be fixated both top and bottom for stability and acoustic privacy. When not in use they are parked in front of the wall facing the front (see photos)
-sleeping space for 2 extra guests with pullout sofa in diningroom (150cm x 200cm)
I'm an expat Aussie, classical musician who travels the world for work/concerts
I've been living in Cologne for 30 years!
I'm interested in all sorts of inspiring, cultural activities, architecture, meeting new, interesting people and enjoy eating exotic foods!!
The city centre is a 10 minute commute (tramstop is a 2 minute walk) and we’re well connected to busses and Cologne South railway station (5 mins walk). A visit to the famous Cologne Cathedral and the Museums on the Rhine takes only 20 mins max. Due to the fact that Cologne is very compact and flat, by bike it's even shorter!
Despite the closeness to the city, nature is at our doorstep not only from our balcony overlooking our communal garden, but the green belt (2 minute walk) and state forests (10 min) are basically around the corner. It's quiet sleeping here with the bedroom towards the backyard and one wouldn't know that we're living in the university area. In our vicinity we have a supermarket and lovely cafes two blocks away (3 mins walk), antik bookshops, bakeries and a Sardinian-deli close by on the Weyerthal street, 2 organic supermarkets 10 minutes walk away and on the main hubs of Zuelpicherstr. & Berrenratherstr., you can find all sorts of eateries, pubs and boutiques. Our favorite cinema "Off Broadway" is a 10 minute walk away and shows mainly arthouse films in original foreign language. Around the corner from that is the beautiful Rathenauerplatz, situated across the road from the old Synagogue and surrounded by interesting restaurants and houses from the turn of last century. Rathenauplatz has a beer garden at one end of it amidst old trees and is a popular place for a game of boules or just to hang out.
