“We had a lovely stay in Doro's home. The communication before the exchange was really good, very friendly and helpful. The property itself was so cosy! We really switched off, went for long walks, read books, relaxed by the fire. We appreciated the thoughtful gifts that Doro left for us on arrival. This was a wonderful exchange for us!”
Dorothee's reviewsAs a host (14)
“From August 8th to August 23rd we (2-3 adults and 3 children) stayed in Dorothee's lovely quirky farmhouse in the Siebengebirge- exposed black beams, clever glass extension, nooks and crannies everywhere. we enjoyed the house and garden immensely (the latter with a lovey covered terrace and fireplace). We explored the area, visited Bonn (Pixar Exhibition), Cologne with its magnificent cathedral and the Roman/Germanic museum, also the chocolate museum - there was something for everybody. Boat trips on the Rhine, cycle tours, visits to the local swimming pools, The Sealife museum in Koenigswinter, a walk to a local ruin with fantastic views over the Rhine including the Drachenfels, which Wagner used for Siegfried's fight with a dragon. We returned to find my house in excellent condition - we were able to collapse into clean sheets. I can recommend an exchange with Dorothee's house wholeheartedly. Brigitte Hurrell”
“We had a great week during Easter holiday in the very charming and cosy house of Doro and Jürgen in Königswinter. When we entered the door, we felt like in a fairytale. the cats and the open fireplace made us feel immediately at home. There's a lot to do in the beautiful environment. We traveled with our 2 little children and Doro wrote down all the activities you can do with small kids, too much for one week! Everything was close by. Doro and Jürgen are very nice people, we would like to recommend them as exchange partners. We had very close and friendly mail contact with each other the weeks before we made this exchange. Also during our stay, we could ask anything by mail to feel comfortable. When we came home, we also found our house cleaned up as we left it. We would like to thank them for another beautiful experience in home swapping. It was our 5th successful exchange. Peter and Evy from Belgium”
“We just came back from a week in Germany. It was just fantastic. The area Dorothee and her family live is great: lovely town, well located, lovely and incredibly comfortable house, easy to find, ... The house is located in between nature and big towns so you can have all sorts of activities and so pleasure all your family. Dorothee made all she could to make us feel comfortable and so we did. I highly recommend this home swap: you will not regret it!”
“We had a great summer 2013 in Doro and Jürgen's. The house is in a beautiful area by the forest and hills of Siebengebirge, and very close to the Rhine and very interesting cities like Bonn and Koln. You can discover the nice countryside around, cruise along the Rhine or Mosel, and visit places like Königswinter, Koblenz or even Frankfurt or Düsseldorf. The exchange went perfect, and everything was OK on our return. And their cats are cute and very well behaved!”
“We, a family of five (with three teenagers), had a delightful stay in Dorothee and Jürgens house. Dorothee was very helpful in setting up this exchange, which was our first. Communication went very easy. We instantly felt at home in their cosy house with spacious living room and lovely fire place. In the nearby neighbourhood we could make long walks in the Siebengebirge and within a short distance interesting musea in Bonn and Cologne could be found. Thanks Doro and Jürgen for giving us the opportunity of staying in your house. It was fantastic and we hope to be able to swap with you again in the nearby future.”
“we had a very enjoyable two weeks in the Siebengebirge in August 2016 . The house had all we were looking for and more . Plenty of space nice garden , good wifi , comfortable beds , convenient for shops and good road communications . We enjoyed the very good walking in the nearby national park and were able to visit over twenty romanesque churches with 50 minutes drive . The family took very good care of our own house and three dogs and were quick to answer any queries we had during the visit It was a nice quiet area and we were able to enjoy a couple of BBQs in the garden . The weather can be mixed in August but for us coming from Spain , the cooler spells were very welcome I have no hesitation in strongly recommending this lovely house and area PAtrick ELVIN”
“Questa parte della Germania è meravigliosa, una continua scoperta. La casa di Dorothee è in una posizione ideale, in mezzo al verde vicina al Reno e agli accessi autostradali per le città. Corrisponde esattamente alla descrizione ed ha il fascino del tempo. I gatti non disturbano e, se vi piacciono i felini, saranno di grande compagnia. C'è tutto il necessario per un soggiorno comodo, anche le verdure fresche nell'orto! scambio che ricorderemo”
“We had a wonderfull holiday in Doro and Jürgens lovely home. Everything went so fine and we had a good correspondance with Doro. The home is very cosy and charming and we felt at home right from the start of the holiday. The two lovely cats were so nice and great to have them around. During our stay we went for hikes in the siebenbirge, and also small bike rides in the area and along the Rhine. We also visited nice outdoor swimming pools and it was great fun for all of us. All in all a perfect holiday in a wonderfull area, that we highly reccommend.”
“We had a wonderful experience in the cosy house of Dorothee, Jürgen and kids. The location is beautiful, close to Köln and Bonn, but right in the middle of the woods and hills/mountains of Siebengebirge and the river Rhine. Quiet location in a very special frame house with lovely fireplaces etc. We felt at home right from the start. The cats completed the cosy picture of house, family and seroundings. Thanks for enjoying the wonderful atmosphere of your home. Jeroen & Wilma”
“We had a wonderful stay at Dorothee 's home. It is a very comfortable and lovely house. The surroundings are beautiful, you can have a very nice walk in the woods which starts just outside the house. Dorothee provided a lot of useful information. The garden is also very wonderful. Our girls loved all the toys of Vincent and Elinor as well as the two cats. If we had questions, we could easily contact Dorothee. It was a very nice , warm and comfortable house with a lot of things to do, hiking, sea life, cultural Bonn. ”
“La maison de Doro et son mari est charmante et romantique, tout comme la forêt aux alentours. Nous avons fait des belles marches à l\'ombre des arbres et le long du Rhin, visité le château de Drachenburg et son histoire particulière, Konigswinter et la cathédrale de Bohn. Ce fut un échange charmant, dans cette maison rénovée ancienne à colombages typique. Nous avons trouvé tout ce dont nous avions besoin dans la maison, qui est magnifique ainsi que son jardin. The house of Doro and her husband is charming and romantic, as is the forest in the vicinity. We made beautiful walks in the shade of the trees and along the Rhine, visited Drachenburg Castle and its particular history, Konigswinter and Bohn Cathedral. This was a lovely exchange, in this old renovated old half-timbered house. We found everything we needed in the house, which is beautiful as well as its garden.”
“Thank you Doro and Juergen, and again it felt very good that there a families (like yours) who do respect and warship such a beautiful concept as a house swap. Thank you for your hospitality and love concerning your beautiful house. Everything was well arranged and we could feel home from the first moment. And by this _ I am not only talking about the flowers and the wine and the chocolate that u left for us. We enjoyed exploring the Siebengebirge as well as the nearby cities like Cologne and Bonn. Your house is situated at a really wonderful place with lots of nature around. But also you can visit a lot of very nice touristic destinations. Have a good time and greetings to the cats _ we do miss them ! Georg Johannink”
“We've just returned from spending Easter week in Doro and Juergen's house in Ittenbach. It is a charming home; comfortable and cosy with two very friendly and easy-to-care-for cats. Plenty of toys and DVDs to entertain small children and a great climbing frame in the garden. The neighbourhood had plenty to offer, from lovely walks two minutes from the house to fantastic ice-cream. The region has much to recommend it - beautiful castles and ruins on the top of mountains and delightful villages. There were wonderful swimming pools within easy reach for the more cloudy days. An excellent break in a lovely house in a great part of Germany. Our house was immaculate when we returned home. I would definitely recommend a swap!”
Where is it?
The house is located in the small village of Ittenbach, around 7 km from Königswinter on top of the Siebengebirge. Ittenbach is surrounded by a nature reserve, ideal for hiking, mountain-biking, skating and long walks in the forrests. Important points of interests nearby are the Drachenfels, Bonn (the former capital of Germany, 18 km) and Cologne (45 km). Even Koblenz (72 km), Wiesbaden (120 km) and Frankfurt (150 km) are only a short car ride away. Königswinter is the gate to the romantic Rhine valley, famous for its wine, medieval castles and gorgeous scenery, best admired on a riverboat cruise.

Immediately in Ittenbach you'll find shops for daily necessities (drugstore, groceries (Aldi & Rewe), bakery, newspaper/cigarettes, icecream parlor). Larger grocery shops are also situated in the next village (3 km). Ittenbach has a good connection to the highway and from there to Cologne, Bonn, Frankfurt and Koblenz. Public transportation to Königswinter and Siegburg is available, but irregular.
