SHORT NOTE: BECAUSE OF PERSONAL REASONS WE ARE NOT CONSIDERING ANY EXCHANGES AT THE MOMENT OR NEXT SUMMER, AND WE ARE VERY SORRY THAT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR US TO ANSWER ALL THE GORGEOUS OFFERS WE ARE GETTING! Our 130m2 apartment with wooden floor is located in the "Hinterhaus" (back house) of a 1910 built factory building, recently reconstructed to loft apartments. Mainly it consists of one big living-working-kitchen-room, with a separate bedroom and one room that is going to be our son's room (at the moment we use it mainly as a guest or laundry room). Our cleaners come once a week. We furnished the apartment in a somewhat eclectic way with antiques and modern design stuff. If you bring your own laptop you can choose from our small but fine selection of movies and mainly english comedy DVDs (we don't have a TV!). In our library you will find, apart from a large collection of german literature, also some english fiction and nonfiction, mainly about arts, design and architecture. But maybe the most beautiful thing about our apartment is the great view you have: it overlooks the river Spree, you have a nearly 180° view over the city panorama from the famous Alexanderplatz tower to the Oberbaum bridge. Directly opposite there is the last remaining part of the Berlin wall and the newly constructed 02-Arena. It's a pleasure just to watch the huge sky over Berlin while comfortably sipping a glass of wine.
We are a couple in our mid/late thirties with Karl, our 2 year old son. Stefanie is a graphic designer and illustrator, Boris is teaching interface design. We love classical music, especially from the baroque era, good food, beautiful and funny books, apple computers and hiking. We like both urban centres as well as the wild countryside.
Kreuzberg and especially the Wrangelkiez is a quirky and multi cultural neighbourhood. You will find lots of bars, restaurants and funny little places to shop (be it organic food, hip trainers or jewelry you are looking for) but you can also simply go for a walk. Considering that we live in an urban area in the centre of Berlin (well, one of the centres) it's surprisingly green. It's also child-friendly ? there are quite a lot of playgrounds and some parks in walking distance. Kreuzberg's people come from all over the world and in the last years its down-to-earth charm attracted a lot of artists, designers and media people. Kreuzberg is a great place to explore in itself but also a good starting point for the main tourist destinations in Berlin such as the Alexanderplatz (15 minutes with public transport), Hackesche Höfe (20 minutes), Brandenburger Tor (25 minutes) etc.. Also the cultural highlights like Libeskind's famous Jewish Museum (15 minutes) or the various exhibitions on the Museumsinsel (20 minutes) are easily to reach. The next underground and bus station is a 5 minute walk.
