“Everything was just perfect. So much that we're already talking about repeating the swap, only for a longer period, next Summer. Dirk's and Naika's place is as perfect as they get. The location is wonderful (sitting right on the land where the infamous Wall was erected, and 2 blocks away from its memorials and remains), close to everything and especially to MItte's most beautiful streets lined with cafés and cozy restaurants. We exchanged cars and this allowed us to visit every lake and wood nearby and get to know Berlin and its surroundings in a completely new way. The house, a double-storied ground floor modern apartment with its own private backyard is so beautifully appointed that we were glad we had a few rainy days to just stay in and relax. We were greeted by Madelaine, Naika's mom, who made us feel welcome from day one and gave us great tips to enjoy our stay even more. We didn't get the chance to meet the family in person more than briefly at their airport, but we did learn about them via their populated bookcases, their spice shelves, their plants in the yard and balcony. Berlin treated us with great care, even during times of corona. We enjoyed perfect summer temperatures, lots of sun, and were able to take our kids to the numerous public spaces all around the apartment and all over the city. Can't wait to go back! ”
