“We greatly enjoyed our stay in Uttenreuth. The academic guests were a pleasure to meet and we felt that they were a bonus to our stay.As it was springtime, we delighted in the beautiful garden, so different from our own sub-tropical garden in Queensland, Australia. We spent most of our time when at home enjoying the huge conservatory soaking up the sun. Transport and shopping are very handy and Uttenreuth is well-placed for the rest of Bavaria. We had excellent pre-visit communication with Mairi and thoroughly enjoyed our orientation tour of the area and delicious dinner before they departed.”

About our home
I have a large house with conservatory (50sqm) and music room with an excellent grand piano as well as the usual things one finds in a home nowadays. I do have a number of rather precious antiques which is the reason I would rather not have young chn. As the house is too big for me I have 3 lovely professional people sharing it with me and since most speak English could be of help. The accommodation available is a bed/sittingroom plus bathroom in the attic as well as the use of all the other general rooms-kit. music room, sitting room guest room, conservatory etc. A girl comes in to clean the main common areas once a week and Herr Stefek our handyman, clears the snow each morning in winter. There is a large kitchen garden the produce of which some of our guests have enjoyed using although there is no work there for I have an automatic watering system.

Mairi's reviews
As a host (2)“Our home exchange in Uttenreuth was really too short and the weather, for the end of summer, was a little damp but the house was very inviting and the home owners very accommodating and charming. We were a little apprehensive to begin with as the house was listed as being partly a boarding establishment and we did not have a car as part of the swap. How did things turn out? Great! We eventually got to meet the boarders as the two weeks went by but it was a matter of 'Hello' or 'Goodbye' and we generally had the house to ourselves for the entire two weeks. The home is very well equipped, a very comfortable place with several sitting areas, wonderful sunroom, good kitchen and appliances and a lovely yard. The top floor of the house was ours. The space is open-plan living with a good sized en-suite, your own sitting area with a television. We felt very much at home. Transport did not become a concern with the bus stop minutes away and a frequent service to Erlangen where you are then about 30 minutes from Nuremberg, two or so hours from Munich and in close proximity to some of Germany's best medieval towns. Erlangen is a very large city with great facilities and an interesting history while Nuremberg, also a medieval town, has a much more recent history associated with Hitler that is fascinating. A tip for train travel around Germany is to go to the local station and get tickets and even book 3 or more days in advance to get better deals; we found this much cheaper that booking through the internet. A comprehensive supermarket and alcohol market were minutes from the house and some good eating places within walking distance. The house was well equipped with bicycles and there was a very good bike track and pedestrian walk into Erlangen with plenty of walks and bike trails to explore within the immediate area.”

. I am a retired university lecturer with an incredibly broad range of interests and 3 chn. in Melb and Luxembourg. I am primarily looking for a variety of homes for the periods between Dec and the end of February for the Australian Summer. Just ask if you'd like to come to Erlangen/Uttenreuth in the European travelling period. I am very tidy and a GARDENER. Non-simultaneous is poss, for I am a great traveller and can take off when need be when I usually travel somewhere in Europe. I sometimes travel alone or with a friend or family member or two

Where is it?
Neighbourhood
Uttenreuth is a village close to the university town of Erlangen and about 20 kms from Nueremberg. We are surrounded by rolling hills and forest. There are great bus and train connections to Munich, Bamberg, Berlin, Prague, Berlin, Paris, Wuerzburg etc. There is a network of cycle tracks making a car unnecessary unless it is raining. Parking in Erlangen is a nightmare and public transport is so very good that I opt for that. Although I've given these dates I am very flexible so just contact me.I am a town guide and usually try to give you a conducted tour of the town and a meal before I leave you to work things out for yourselves.
