About our home

____________The villa _________ Our classic 1930ies Wiesbaden villa has been carefully renovated to the most modern standards in 2006 maintaining original features like wooden floors, high ceilings and put in contrast with modern interior like kitchen, bathroom and staircase (and modern design furniture). While it is located downtown Wiesbaden, it features a huge garden with a grown out trees (among them a 30m high German oak tree which is protected by government as a nature symbol). A 700sqm driveway is unique in our area and gives it a generous appearance. We co-own the villa with another family. Our part of the house has about 170sqm living area and the outside (garden and driveway) is shared. You will of enjoy your own terrace (E) and loggia (S) and balcony (N). The house has a lively past. Built by a local industrial, it was annected by the US army after WW II as headquarters office. In the 50ies it was then acquired by a movie maker. Old neighbors tell stories of these glamorous times, when Heinz Rühmann (famous German actor) was a regular guest at parties.
_________ The area __________ Wiesbaden has always been a highly preferred place. The Romans enjoyed the hot springs and used them for spas (Kaiser Friedrich Therme still gives public access today). In the 30ies, Wiesbaden was a vacation destination for authors like Dostojewsky, who wrote "The Gambler" (you can loose your money in the casino). Richard Wagner wrote parts of the Niebelungen here and Goethe parts of Faust (when you look down the hills where they grow wine - 20min by car - you can literally see some of his poems). Today, people like the classical buildings (Wiesbaden was not destroyed in the war) and it proximity to the metropolitan life of Frankfurt (not more than 30min to downtown), Frankfurt airport (15min) and the wineries and castles of the UNESCO world heritage Rheingau area (20min). Wiesbaden is used by the German government as representative place and recently hosted visits by the US and Russian presidents and the Dalai Lama. Your prefect place to discover Germany.
