About our home

Our Greek villa was built in 2003 and overlooks Souda Bay and the Akrotiri Peninsula. It has a double bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen and veranda downstairs and a separate studio with twin beds, a bathroom and balcony upstairs. There is also a double sofa bed in our study. It has a small, secluded garden with a Jacuzzi and is a ten minute drive to a sandy beach resort.
There are two good tavernas and a well-stocked supermarket in the village. To travel further afield it is best to hire a car as buses are infrequent.

  2. We work part-time as freelance copy-editors.

Where is it?

Buzzy restaurants
You will find good home cooking in the Taverna in our village (just 100 metres from our house) or excellent fish restaurants in the beach resort of Almerida 10 minutes drive away.
Cool bars
You can sit out under the stars in the busy village square in Plaka (5 minutes drive away) or drive to the charming town of Chania (40 minutes) and sample the pavement culture or sit by the Venetian Harbour for a spot of people watching.
Cozy cafés
You will find a huge range of cafes in the nearby villages or towns from the square in the lovely old viilage of Vamos to the sea front in Kalyves (both a 15 minute drive from our house).
Retail therapy
In Chania you can find every type of shop and we recommend particularly the leather goods in 'Leather Lane' and the covered market or 'Agora'.
Bit of culture
Again, Chania is also the centre of culture with art galleries, museums, including a small archaeological museums.
Walks in the park
There are many local walks in the area but for a special day out we recommend the Botanical Park of Crete which is an hour's drive from our house. It takes one and a half hours to walk around the park and the restaurant serves delicious fresh meals made from local produce.
Spot of exercise
Swimming in the sea, snorkelling or scuba diving (there is a diving centre in Almerida 10 minutes drive from our house). We also recommend pedaloing on Lake Kournas.
Day tripping
A definite must is to visit the south coast of Crete driving through spectacular mountain scenery - either Plakias and the Preveli Monastery, Loutro (take the ferry from Chora Sfakion), or Palaeochora and Elafonissi in the far south-west.
