About our home

Each of the six spacious rooms and suites features a king, queen or two full beds, a cozy fireplace and a large bathroom in the Moorish style, lovely handmade wooden furniture and artwork. In line with their Moorish heritage the rooms are called Zahar, Jazmin, Magia, Poesia and Shaharazad and Embrujo.
French windows open on to your own private garden terrace or the spacious roof terrace. Elegant appointments and attention to detail make these rooms some of Central America’s finest.
At night, the Inn is illuminated by hundreds of candles that highlight its Spanish-Moorish architecture with a flowered central patio, cool corridors, tropical gardens, and elegantly furnished rooms.
A fine blend of European and Latin American furniture, paintings and art and unrivaled personal attention will make your stay a memorable experience. Beautiful hand-wrought ironwork, a tradition in Antigua, graces the verandahs, gates and windows.
From the second floor terrace, you will have a great view of the wooded hills surrounding Antigua crowned by the imposing volcanoes Agua, Fuego and Acatenango, while enjoying a sumptuous Guatemalan breakfast, reading a book or writing postcards home.
The spacious lounge and elegant salon, as well as the well-stocked multilingual library are yours to enjoy. The rustle of fountains in the two exuberant gardens and the vibrant Guatemalan textiles that accent the high ceiling-ed rooms will put you in the mood for exploring Antigua.

More about us

  1. The idea to create a very special place, a haven for the discriminating traveler, developed during a long journey. It was nurtured by 25 years of living and traveling in many countries in Asia, Europe, and the Americas, during which I learned from fascinating cultures, and studied the languages, traditions and customs of different peoples. I returned to Guatemala convinced that Antigua Guatemala would be the perfect setting to realize this dream and to create a small paradise, a secluded and welcoming haven for the experienced world traveler.

I decided that the format of a boutique hotel would conform best to my ideal. I wanted the size and ambiance to feel like a private home rather than a hotel and the service and attention to my guests to be impeccable and personal.
I wanted the hotel to be in complete harmony with the history and tradition of Antigua, recreating the architecture and decoration of the time of the Spanish colonies, including the Moorish influence brought here by the original founders of Antigua.
I wished my guests to make a spiritual pause in their journey, to contemplate the aesthetics of another time, and to sense the spirit of this magical town.
    Carolina de Vayssier.

Neighbourhood

Arriving at the Posada de los Leones, which is Spanish for the Lion´s Inn, you will marvel at its wonderful setting among the shady trees of a coffee plantation evoking a time when life was quiet and more gracious. The faint smell of the coffee flower permeates the pure mountain air. You are surrounded by many-colored bougainvilleas, tropical ferns and exuberant flowers that flourish in this eternal spring-like climate. Despite this pastoral setting, the Inn is within easy walking distance of the center of Antigua with its famous square, international restaurants, upscale boutiques, and unique artisan shops.
