Our apartment is newly renovated, clean and modern with a good size space for city living. We are fortunate to have an almost 180 degree view, looking out over many of the smaller islands of Hong Kong and also it's famous skyline. On a clear day you can see as far as Lamma Island and the fireworks of Disneyland. We have two bedrooms, both with double beds and a modern finish throughout. We have a maid who lives locally and she can be available regularly during your home exchange.
Discovery Bay is a unique location in Hong Kong for several reasons. We are a car free island and public transportation is therefore very good. Our apartment can be easily reached by two regular bus services from the plaza and a 25 minute ferry ride runs to central Hong Kong every 30 mins, all day and night. In the plaza you can enjoy a variety of bars and restaurants which cater for a range of cultures, an international supermarket also means you can self cater if you wish. The plaza area, bars and restaurants overlook our own little beach -Tai Pak Bay and there is nothing better than watching the sun go down with a cocktail or two. We also have access to two private leisure centres including gym and swimming pool facilities which can be used during your stay.Lantau island has a great reputation for offering a more chilled out pace for Asian life, and has some amazing hiking trails, great for mountain biking and even surfing. With the city only 30 minutes away, living in Discovery Bay allows you to have the best of both worlds.
Hong Kong itself is a very exciting international city, with much more to do than you would expect. As well as all the usual tourist spots, world renowned restaurants and entertainment you would expect from Asias capital, Hong Kong also offers a lot of outdoor activities. Hiking is very popular and there are many country parks and beaches to explore once you leave the city. Hong Kong is actually 90% green space. We enjoy visiting the beaches, some of which are quite remote and unspoilt by tourism and camping is also an excellent option. Everything is very accessible in Hong Kong, transportation is excellent and always runs on time making it a great place for exploring. Macau is also easily accessible from Hong Kong for both a day trip or longer, and is well worth a visit for its unique blend of Portuguese architecture mixed with a Chinese version of Las Vegas.
Hong Kong never sleeps and there is so much to do here: the food, the diverse culture, the nightlife and restaurants, shopping in the malls and markets. There is such a mix of old and new, particularly if you venture off the beaten track you will find there is so much more to Hong Kong than first meets the eye. We're more than happy to leave you our guide books and recommendations to help you make the most of your home exchange.
