About our home

We are a married couple living alone as our children have grown up and flown the nest, one in London the other in Vancouver. We have a three storey house on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. It has a living and dining room, large kitchen and three bedrooms, a study and flat roof. We are less than 10 minutes walk to Cheung Sha beach, one of the nicest beaches in Hong Kong, and 20 minutes from the airport. We are less than an hour away from Hong Kong's Central district and we have a car, a white Mitsubishi Lancer, which we would be happy to provide with the house.

Where is it?

Very quiet, especially at night. Our neighbours keep themselves to themselves and are no trouble.

Buzzy restaurants
Nearest restaurants are at the beach, 10 minutes walk away, but the nearest twon, Tung Chung, is 15 to 20 minutes away by car, taxi and bus.
Cool bars
Again, at the beach (Cheung Sha), but I wouldn't describe any of the bars as cool. Wine and spirits are cheap in the supermarkets (duty free) and it's possible to buy a nice selection of wines quite cheaply, to drink at home on the roof or one of the balconies.
Cozy cafés
None within close vicinity.
Retail therapy
Tung Chung New Town, 15 to 290 minutes away by car, taxi and bus, where there is a huge Outlet Mall which is popular with Mainland Chinese visitors, plus a large supermarket, shops and restaurants.
Bit of culture
There is a thriving theatre life in Hong Kong, an hour away by car and train or ferry into the Central Business District.
Walks in the park
Country Park is on the doorstep, plus its an easy bus ride to the Big Buddha at Nong Ping or fishing village at Tai O, with a two to three hours walk back along a catchwater to the house rather than use the bus.
Spot of exercise
Several beaches and lots of hiking opportunities.
Day tripping
Big Buddha, Tai O fishing village, Macau and Zhuhai (China), but everything is accessible because the transport links are extremely good and relatively cheap. Disneyland is easily accessible but we have never been there as it's more child orientated than the likes of Hong Kong's Ocean Park.
