About our home

We live on our own private vineyard estate at the foothills of the Vertes National park, in the ever increasingly popular wine growing region of Mor, just an hour west of Budapest. Owner operated as a boutique rural retreat my late husband and I created our unique home from original wine cottages, set amongst landscape gardens filled with lavender, fruit trees and vines. We have two pools, stunning views, attentive staff and friendly locals. My home is on site and I have x7 other cottages of various configurations to choose from, we could offer a group booking up to x10 for a similar swap. My daughter Meg (13), when not at home is away at boarding school in Vienna, and my Mother who splits her time between Budapest and her home in another part of Hungary, is a hoot. We often travel together, calling ourselves 'The 3 Generations'. Our ideal swaps are similar design, two-three bedroom homes, top request unique and charming. Check out our Trip Advisor reviews.

More about us

  1. Hi, I am Catherine. I own and operate (with my wonderful staff) and vineyard retreat one hour from Budapest.

  2. I worked at luxury private island resorts in the British Virgin Islands and Nevis for 10 years in my mid 20's and 30's. I brought that experience to Hungary, and with Christopher my late husband, developed the unique vineyard retreat knows as Catherine's Cottages. I work with a fabulous local team, so anyone staying with us, will be looked after, I take huge pride in our cottages, and a stickler for all the details. The nicest thing our guests tell us, is that our place looks better than the photos.

  3. Having spent 10 years in the real estate market in Budapest, I am half Hungarian by the way, I now run and manage full time my small boutique retreat, and couldn't be happier. My daughter goes to boarding school in Vienna. I am looking to swap somewhere for us to escpate to in the winter within Europe, and I would be happy to swap one or two of our cottages, between April and end of October.
