Our home is located in Kecskemet, which is about 45 minutes' drive south from Budapest, the capital of Hungary. It is ideally located to visit eastern Europe or the country.
Our home is a two-storey house (270 m2) which consists of five bedrooms, two bathrooms, one living room with a fireplace, one dining room,a modern big kitchen and a sunroom. It is a recent and modern house built by an American in 2003. The garden is 1000 m2 with an automatic watering system. There is a BBQ in the garden under the shades of a several hundred-year-old oak tree. The place is very quiet (in a dead end street). All the rooms are very spacious. We have got high speed internet.
Kecskemet is a nice place to live. Our home is about 10 minutes from the city centre. People use mostly cars, bikes and public transportation (there is a bus stop about 200m from our house).
Kecskemet is the nicest and biggest town in the middle of Hungary, full of sport (e.g horse riding, swimming) and cultural facilities for children and adults all year long. It is the capital of the Great Plains or the Puszta. We especially enjoy the main library with wide collections for English speaking children and adults, the arboretum, the theater, the swimming pools and the thermal baths.
During summer there are several festivals going on in the town centre promoting folk dance, classical, jazz and pop music, there are even open air wine festivals during summer. There are fine authentic restaurants in Kecskemet, there are casinos, pubs and commercial and art cinemas which are showed in the original language thus subtitled.
So if you are interested in discovering the authentic life of Hungarians it is the perfect place to be.
Kecskemet is home of the Zoltan Kodaly pedagogical institute of music (it attracts musically gifted students from all over the world) and the international ceramics studio.

People are very friendly and from the younger generation almost everybody can speak English. People are happy to meet foreigners and ready to help them out.
A stone throw from Kecskemet you can also enjoy all the richness of the capital of Hungary (Budapest) and also Lake Balaton (the warmest lake in Europe).
And if you are interested in travelling in Europe, between Kecskemet and Budapest you will find the International aiairport of Hungary which can bring you to any major cities in Europe within no time.
We are Edit and Marc-Henri, have been married for 13 years. We have four children (Adrien, Lilia, Alexis and Luciana) aged 10,8,6 and 6months.
I (Edit) am binational French/Hungarian and my husband (Marc-Henri) is French.
I am a teacher of English and French and I am teaching in a language school in Kecskemet. My husband is an engineer and he works for the French railway company.
We are non smokers.
We lived in France for ten years and we've been living in Hungary for the last four years. (This way our kids can profit of the Hungarian educational system, which we find of excellent quality.)
We are the happy owner of a beautiful five bedroom house situated in a very quiet street in the suburbs of Kecskemet.
We love getting to know new cultures and travelling abroad.
I like swimming and going to museums, Marc-Henri likes photography, cooking, running and playing board games.
We like nature, visiting cities and making new friends. We very much enjoyed our first trip to the west coast of the USA and we are ready to discover new parts of the world.
We are looking forward to experiencing new places and also living as locals and being part of a community.
