Hi, we have just purchased a detached house in the town of Akranes, half and hour drive from the capital Reykjavik.
We only signed the papers today and will move in to decorate in a few weeks. Therefore the photo's I am attaching are from the estate agents. By summer, the house should have been redecorated and improved. I will put any changes on here when applicable.
It is a detached house on 3 levels. The basement has 2 bedrooms, a clothes washing room, with toilet. There is also another large room which we will be turning into a bedroom over the next month.
On the middle floor, there is a large sitting/dinning room a kitchen, a walk in larder/storage room and a bathroom with both shower and bath.
On the top floor can be used as a complete self contained apartment as it has 2 rooms, kitchen and toilet.
There is a well kept garden with trees, a clothes drying shed and a 36 m2 garage.
My parents live in Glasgow and will have their 50th Wedding Anniversary on 19th Aug. My father will also be 70 on 31st July, so I am hoping to get a house exchange somewhere near Glasgow for that time period. If you cannot make the full month then the last part of it would be best for me.
I have lived in Iceland for the last 13 years in Reykjavik. Before that I lived in Bulgaria doing voluntary work and before that I was for short periods in Russia, Thailand, Malaysia and Korea doing voluntary work. My original profession is in medical laboratory science but have not worked in that field for many years.
We have 3 sons 15, 12 and 9. The middle boy is slightly autistic so appears somewhat shy. We plan to use the top floor of our new house as a training centre for autistic teenagers in the winter and rent out to tourists in the summer but since this is our first summer and we need to be in Scotland for these 2 special occasions we are just looking for an exchange, hopefully with a car.
Akranes is a small town of about 9,000 people. It is located on the peninsula north of Reykjavik. It takes about half an hour to drive to Reykjavik going under the tunnel. We have an automatic lazer ticket machine in our car so if you exchanged cars with us you would not have to pay the car toll going through the tunnel.
I have lived in Reykjavik for 13 years and find the locals very friendly and most speak English. I have not lived in Akranes yet but have visited many there and have talked with friends who have friends and relations there and all have only good things to say about it.
Akranes has an outdoor swimming pool, a library, hospital, supermarkets.

Downtown Reykjavik, in one of the oldest part of town. Quiet and nice. Very near the harbour and the city
