The house is situated about 20 minutes out of Akureyri which is the "capital" of the north and one of the biggest towns in Iceland outsite of the capital Reykjavík. The house is 227 squere meters big, with four bedrooms, large living room, kitchen, three bathrooms and a big garden, with a Jacuzzi. We are a family of five which lives here with our dog and just love the place to pieces. Laufás is an old Churchplace whith history that dates back to 1046 and is a very famous place to visit by tourists all year round. There is an old turf house on the site and an old Church which dates back to 1865 and the turf house is famous for it´s structure which is special for the building style of houses in the northern part of the country. On the Laufás grounds runs the river Fnjóská to the see, and the river is a well known fishing site and it is possible to buy a licence to fish Salmon during the summer and also by the see is a nesting ground for the Eider duck but from the birds nest comes the Eiderdown which is used world wide in clothes and sheets.
Laufás is well situated in the North East and is ideal for people who wan´t to experience Icelandic nature, mountain view, hiking, cycling, enjoy the midnight sun that never sets during summer time, go whale watching either from Akureyri or the near town Húsavík which is an hour drives away, go to lake Mývatn and see the natures wonders there and visit Mýtvatn´s nature bath´s (hour drive away), Go river rafting in Skagafjörður (hour drive away), go the small village of Grenivík, go swimming in Akureyri and visit one the town many good restaurants or just take a walk in the beautiful surroundings and nature of Laufás, eat good food and relax in the calmness of the place.
