About our home

Our house is located in the quiet and leafy suburb of Seljahverfi, with nice walks all around, close to shopping and main transportation hubs with Reykjavik's best and largest park nearby. It has two double bedrooms, one single bedroom (and a crib/highchair available on request). We have two cats, Tango and Shady, that can either be your roomies during your visit or they can go stay with a catsitter if need be. We have two cars that we could include in the swap. The house itself offers the best views of the city - you see the whole city, the bay and the mountains and you can enjoy some rather spectacular sunsets from our balcony (and Northern Lights in the winter).

  1. We are a small family of three - mom, dad and a 4 year old boy.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Seljahverfi is located centrally in the greater Reykjavik area and it is one of the best-organized family neighborhoods in the city. Plenty of playgrounds at your doorstep, leafy and green and organized so that you can take lovely walks and visit parks and playgrounds without ever crossing a street. There is a small grocery store nearby (just up the street) and a big 24-hour supermarket within five minutes. Elliðaárdalur, Reykjavík's best outdoor area, is within five minutes of us as well. Smáralind shopping mall is accessibly within ten minutes and you can drive to the old downtown in Reykjavík in 10 - 15 minutes depending on the traffic. This is a fantastic safe and easy option to stay with a family, while still being within arm's reach of downtown and still being near easy exits from the city onto the highways. Perfect location, we love it here!

Buzzy restaurants
You can reach downtown in 10 - 15 minutes where all of the best restaurants are. Near us you'll find TGI Fridays, O'Leary's, KFC, Búllan, Tokyo Sushi, Bangkok Thai as well as Mathöllin Höfða which offers some great options.
Cool bars
This really is not a bar sort of area, but the city bus stops fifty meters from our doorstep and will take you right downtown (and back) where you can visit as many bars as you want!

Walks in the park
Elliðaárdalur is Reykjavík's best outdoors area, with a beautiful river and forest right in the heart of the city. Much loved by locals! Heiðmörk is also nearby and is a great area to stretch your legs and get some nature in the city. There is a small pond in the neighboorhood with ducks that always appreciate visits from the local kids with a bit of bread for them.
Spot of exercise
Visit our pools - the local one here being Breiðholtslaug but many more available within a short drive. Rush Trampoline Park is also five minutes away.
Day tripping
We are located within easy range of exiting the city to hit the highway and explore the country side.
