In the heart of Reykjavík

This neighborhood „Hlíðar“ is mostly residential and quiet. It is conveniently located for all major routes to downtown and other nearby towns.
Within a 2 min walking distance is KRAMBÚÐ a convenient store just around the corner. Take a left out the door, to Lönguhlíð and turn left. The shop is just on the next block.
It is open from 08:00 - 23:30 weekdays and 09:00 – 23:30 on weekends.

Then there is SUÐURVER a small shopping unit within 8 min walk east. There is a small grocery store, popular bakery/café (they open 6:30 in the mornings). They have good coffee, tea, sandwiches and the atmosphere is nice. There are also Dry Cleaners, Chemist, a Hair Salon and a Fried Chicken fast food place.
If you look over the main street intersection from that side, you will see the buildings where the KRINGLAN, a big shopping mall. It is about a 10 minutes walk over there. You will find basically „everything“ you may need in the Mall, clothing stores, H&M, ZARA, VERA MODA, Hagkaup, Bónus a large supermarket, restaurants, cafés, fast food places and Cinemas etc.

To walk downtown Reykjavík, the best way is to walk from the house to the left, to Lönguhlíð turn left and walk to the major street MIKLABRAUT (To the north of the area) and go west. When you come to the intersection of MIKLABRAUT-LÖNGUHLID you see a big park across the MIKLABRAUT called KLAMBRATUN. There you will find an Icelandic art museum KJARVALSSTADIR.
From this park you will be able to spot the tower of HALLGRIMSKIRKJA to the west which you can use as your direction signal towards the center of Reykjavik. The church is a landmark and will lead you easily towards the centre of town. You can also go down to LAUGAVEGUR (our Main street) from the park and walk that main street all the way to downtown.

Furthermore, from our house there is a fairly short walk to the PERLAN (the Pearl) one of the main sightseeing places in Reykjavík. It is a glass building on top of water tanks situated on top of a hill ÖSKJUHLÍÐ behind our house. You take a left turn out of our house, walk to the end of the street, turn right into Lönguhlíð and you see PERLAN up the hill. Go straight up to ÖSKJUHLÍÐ. There is a museum "Wonders of Iceland", restaurant, Cafe and gift shops and from an outside deck you have a panoramic view over Reykjavík.
