Where is it?

Laugar is a community in the Reykjadalur valley which has sprung up around the geothermal activity which is a characteristic of the area. The native Icelanders have strong cultural ties and have the same heartbeat as their ancestors.
The village is home to the Laugar primary and secondary schools and college, it is the administrative and service centre for the Þingeyjarsveit district, with a bank, a shop, a restaurant and sport facilities.
The hot tubs and swimming pool in Laugar are geothermically heated and provide the opportunity to join-in and meet the locals.

Among the other most known highlights of the north, a special mention goes to a few places: the gigantic horseshoe-shaped canyon of Ásbyrgi, the astonishing valley of Vesturdalur with the bizarre rock formations of Hljóðaklettar; the mighty and striking Dettifoss waterfall; the otherworldly volcanic fields of Krafla to the geothermal area of Hverir, the amazing lake Mývatn and its surrounding nature bath of Jarðböðin and lava field of Dimmuborgir, and finally the elegant yet dramatic Goðafoss waterfall. Just off the beaten track some hidden corners and forgotten spaces are as surprising as the most famous ones: from the sparkling Skjálfandi bay to the beautiful Tjörnes peninsula, which hides fossils and bird nests, from the east side with the lush valley of Hólmatungur to the less known location around Mývatn such as the dark Hverfjall and the turquoise pool of Grjótagjá, from the little visited west side with several inviting places to some little known yet striking areas of fire and ice. Northeastern Iceland offers the chance for an epic and unforgettable adventure that is already waiting for you.
