The house is a sturdy, warm cement single family home in a quiet peaceful town. The yard is 900 square meters of mostly open lawn with a wooden fence surrounding. Resident family is five people: married couple with three children (17, 10, 4 years old). First floor: Hallway, dining room(separate from kitchen), living room (sofa, love seat, arm chair, 42" tv), large kitchen (fully equipped). Second floor: Four beds set up (2 queen size, single, double). We also have both an additional double bed and a crib which can be set up if you need them. Computer room, half bath.
My name is Eric my wife's name is Inga. I am from Massachusetts originally and my wife grew up in eastern Iceland. We are a married couple in our late 30's. Both of us recently finished advanced degree programs: I am a marine biologist and she is currently pursuing a career in local politics. We are looking to spend some time together teaching our children about the wider world as we learn about it through exploration. We speak both English and Icelandic. Our interests in traveling are to visit people we know, explore other cultures, and to meet new people and see new places.
The town has a population of 1200. Most Icelanders speak English as well as Icelandic. We are a stone's throw from the ocean. It's quiet. There is a renowned golf course and good athletic facility including large heated pool, sauna, tanning, and Nautilus gym. Within short drive from Reykjavík, Keflavík, and other towns - car is necessary due to poor bus service. Mountains and wide open land featuring many walking trails, geothermal areas, and all kinds of interesting geological sights; such as the split between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, extinct volcanoes, lava fields of varying age, and caves. Wild life includes Arctic foxes and ptarmigans.
Our car is available for exchange as well. It is a Toyota Rav4 and handles many of the dirt roads in the country with no problem. It is too small to attempt river crossings where there is no bridge, however. Such roads are the ones that head inland and are marked with a letter F before the road number on the map. The car seats 5 people, though it is somewhat cramped with 3 large adults in the back seat. There is a car seat for our 4 year old in the car and we also have a booster seat for kids 5-6 years of age.

Downtown Reykjavik, in one of the oldest part of town. Quiet and nice. Very near the harbour and the city
We built our 173 m2 home 4 years ago. It is in the country side with lot of free space around and about 10 km from Akureyri. Close to the Christmas house....
