About our home

Our villa is set over two levels, each with a spacious bedroom (queen bed), separate bathroom, sitting/living areas and small kitchen. In addition to the two bedrooms there is a single mattress available for an extra person and additional small mattresses for younger children.
Both levels have terraces overlooking the sea, rice fields and Bali's sacred volcano, Mt Agung.
Both the upstairs and downstairs areas have fridges, a small cooker and eating and cooking utensils.
The villa is elevated, sitting above the beautiful little village of Nyutebel, and catches the coastal breeze and there is a small, cooling swimming pool to enjoy. The pool is quite deep so children would need to be supervised at all times although it can be isolated by gates and locked doors from the living and terrace areas.
There are fans in both bedrooms and multiple fans in the living areas.
There is a massage table available in the villa and a highly qualified masseuse/beautician can visit to pamper you.
The villa is staffed by a lovely couple who look after the house and will cook a simple breakfast if wanted. They work from around 8 to 10am and the pool is serviced by a 3rd person on a daily basis. We consider them our family and they really enjoy having guests occupying the villa. Nyo, our manager, knows everything there is to know about the area and Bali generally and is only too happy to assist in making your stay an enjoyable one.
Transport to and from the airport approximately 1 1/2 hours away can be arranged as can travel to wherever else in Bali you may wish to venture.
While we don't have internet access in the villa an Indonesian sim can be purchased at a local phone shop and used in your own phone or many restaurants in Candidasa offer free wifi that works well.
The villa is accessed by a set of steps that might challenge the infirm and would not be suitable for disabled visitors.

More about us

  1. We are a retired Australian couple in our late 60s who have been travelling to Bali and elsewhere since the early 1970s. We built this villa in Candidasa, Bali, a few years ago to assist the local villagers and their communities and to use as a home-away-from-home as we have loved the Balinese people and the area from our first visit there in 1976.
We have travelled extensively around the world and love going to new places as well as those previously visited.
We prefer to embed ourselves in an area rather than just visit the tourist sites and the Candidasa villa enables visitors to do just that as well.
We have now done quite a few home-swaps and want others to enjoy what we have enjoyed so much since building Kupu Kupu Villa. We are open to offers to swap anywhere. Swaps do not need to be simultaneous.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Our villa is located adjacent to a lovely village (Nyutebel), just an easy walk to 'town' (Candidasa) which has all you need for a really enjoyable stay. On Bali's East Coast, Candidasa is about 60-90 mins from Denpasar airport, the main one on the island. It is a beautiful part of Bali with much to offer away from the bustle of 'the south' but close enough to go for a day's shopping or sight-seeing.
Candidasa is not a 'party town' but does have numerous excellent restaurants, quite a number of which offer live music of varying genres on a nightly basis.
The people are friendly and certainly not likely to hassle you into buying. They respect your wishes and are only too happy to assist you in finding whatever you want.
There is excellent scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, fishing, trekking through the rice fields, and cultural destinations such as a traditional Balinese village and numerous temples. Bali is a shopper's paradise and nowhere in Bali is many hours away by road, boat or ferry.
Close by is the port of Padang Bai which offers boat trips to neighboring islands.
Knowledgable drivers are plentiful and there is rarely a day that goes by without some form of colourful ceremony taking place locally.
There are numerous trustworthy money-changers in Candidasa as well as a number of ATMs.
