About our home

UPDATE: We have 2 adjoining units, description below is for 1 unit; feed our cat and you can have both units! Our 3rd-floor condo is 484 sq feet, with hardwood flooring in the bedroom and marble everywhere else. We have a nice balcony overlooking the hotel grounds, away from the street so it's very quiet. Mornings are very nice! We have an imported leather couch/chair combo, plenty of storage space. We have a 32" flatscreen TV with 50+ cable channels, plenty of Western programming/news and a DVD player/200 DVDs. I have net access and a customized desk ready for your laptop. We have a kitchenette with fridge/sink/microwave but no real cooking facilities. Really it's by choice-- restaurants in Bali are of such high quality, offering cuisines from all over the world at such low prices that we eat out(see below). Also there's a convenient meal delivery service from local restaurants, or even hotel room service. You will be astonished at how cheaply and well you can live here, even eating all your meals in great restaurants. Our place is a perfect retreat. We're as connected as we want to be in Western style comfort, but at Asian prices. And I never miss my sunset beach walk! Oh yes--a real pleasure of living here is having a maid! Komang comes 3x/week, it's about US$1.50 per visit. She can come as often as you like.

More about us

  1. I'm repeating myself just to clarify: if you will take care of our cat, you can have both our (adjoining) units, which makes our offer 2 bedrooms and about 90 sq. meters/900 sq ft. of living space. I'm Tom, a 47 yr old American, my wife Dian is 37 and Indonesian. I do contract engineering work in the US, and we're here in Bali or traveling when I'm not working. We're interested in Paris in July or August 2011 right now, a month's stay would be perfect, and fit your 30-day Indonesian Visa-On-Arrival. We are quiet, neat, flexible, and would be as responsible with another person's house as we hope you would be of ours. Also if you have pets that would actually be a big plus for us--we love animals. We do have a cat here, and we have a friend who can take him while we are gone if necessary (and stay in our 2nd unit). We can talk about it. Email me please, or my Skype handle is tommullaly. Thanks!

Where is it?

We're located on the grounds of the 4-star Jayakarta Hotel complex, in the Seminyak area of Bali. It's 4 minutes' walk to the sand of the beach from my door, thru the hotel grounds, so no traffic to go thru to get to the beach. You have full use of all hotel amenities, 3 swimming pools, gym, tennis court, room service etc. Our building is separate from the hotel rooms; it's for longer-term rentals and expats. It's quiet as it's never full: people are usually not year-round residents here. There is 24 hr security at the front gate, and beach entrance. There are several good restaurants on the beach, and dozens more a US$1-$2 taxi ride away. Our top 25 are of Western quality/hygiene/service, and whether it's Italian, Greek, Mexican, Thai, French, or even Indonesian(!), etc, the low prices may shock you. (US$2-$5 per plate) Deciding where to go for a meal is a real pleasure. Rent motorcycle if you want--approx US$4/day or less by the month, 125cc up to a Harley if you like! In my opinion a car is really just a hassle here, w/taxis + bikes so cheap, but car/bike rentals are right outside the hotel entrance. We take taxis, or walk. Basically there is a well-developed infrastructure for all the tourists (Aussie, Japanese, etc) and now a lot of expats, retired or doing business here. An interesting and varied scene w/people from all over the world, and Indonesia; loads of nightlife, shopping. Perfect for a sabbatical or even a month's vacation.
