There is a secret trail through the jungle and over the river to the other ridge where Sari Organic Restaurant is. Guided trip can be arranged with the locals.
WHERE EXACTLY IS THIS? Intensely gorgeous scenery surrounds this amazing studio perched on top of the famous Campuhan Ridge Trail in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. In a lovely village named Bankiang Sidem, it is only 7 minutes from the Big Bintang (one of top three grocery stores in Ubud.) Ideal location for mountain trips, rafting, seeing the elephants, cycling and hiking right outside your door step.
HOW SHORT OF DRIVE FROM UBUD? The short 7 minute drive will take you back to the yesteryears of the real Balinese villages, passing temples and dipping through the cool jungle air and over a river before popping up to tiered rice fields that stretch on forever as you turn onto your road. You are far removed from the traffic, smog and hectic craziness of Ubud without being far away. Magically you are in the heart of Ubud on a ridge immersed in tiered rice fields, jungles, palm trees and views of Bali mountains while being lulled by the sound of flowing river far below.
WHY IS THIS AREA SPECIAL? The confluence of rivers on both sides of the ridge is the original heart of Ubud and how the name came about. In the 8th century a Javanese Hindu priest came to Bali and mediated at the confluence of the two Wos rivers at Campuhan. Ubud is translated to "medicine" or "healing." A temple was constructed at this site and still stands where the rivers merge from each side of the ridge. This temple is stunning and is being rehabbed now it is a sight to behold to see the intricacies of the detailed workmanship of old and new side by side! When you stay here, you understand the meridians and flow of energy here and why this location means healing. It is something to be felt, totally undescribable. I fell in love with this place the first moment I drove down the road. It is truely a magical and healing place to be experienced and felt.
WHAT ARE THE BEDROOMS LIKE? There is currently a bed due for delivery next week. Right now it would be perfect for two friends traveling together, because there is an oversized sofa, with brand new super thick cushions to call bed. You can see the 'L' shaped sofa in the photo and it is ample enough room for one person on each side. Views consist of lucious jungle, tiered rice fields and distant mountains. It is VERY private!
IS THE LIVING AREA BIG? A massive oversized couch is in the large living area to chill out and drink the views in (or wine!) Lounge in the spacious luxury and soak up the green surroundings outside with fresh breezes flowing through from the rice paddies and jungle. With this open floor plan and one open wall looking out over the jungle, you feel nestled in and comfortable yet free amongst the blue sky above every color and hue of green imaginable as far as they eye can see. In the mornings, be ready for a sunrise unlike any other with mountains in the distance appearing like magic from the mist and clouds. Admire the beams of sunlight as they cut through the steam rising from the jungle if you are up early. In the evening just relax and watch how the trees change colors as the sun sets from behind.
WHAT DO I SEE FROM THE HOUSE? Pure Nature. Step out the front door, and you are likely to see Balinese people working in rice fields. You see pure never ending jungle looking over to the other ridge over a hidden river flowing with calming water sounds. The west side of the studio where you enter is a view of tiered rice fields in every direction that will literally take your breath away. You are on ground level at the front door, but two stories up at the open wall facing the jungle, so the privacy is unbeatable.
WHAT IS CLOSE? FOOD/ MASSAGE/ ART NEARBY? You are living on the Campuhan trail! Walk out your front door, turn left, and in about 60 seconds you will be at a quaint little Cafe called Karsa Kafe where you can sit in a Bale, which is a covered wooden pagoda style building and feed the Koi fish underneath you in the pond. Grab a cold Bingtang Beer or fresh coconut and just watch the intense sunsets over the rice fields, differnet sunset show over rice fields free every night. Or...grab a massage at the brand new Karsa Spa there. Great prices and everything from reiki, sports massage, reflexology, manicures, facials and body scrubs with luxurious baths. There is another spa called Bliss Spa, a short stroll away, a nice fancy restaurant within walking distance, several Art shops, a few egg painters and traditional Balinese paintings are available nearby (as close as next door!) and a silver jewelry store within a few minutes walk. Snacks and drinks are available from several tiny local "shops" up and down the road.
WHO ARE THE NEIGHBORS? The village of Bankiang Sidem is stretched out along the Campuhan trail, made up of mostly Balinese and some expats. It's a secret treasure nestled away with steps down to the river to splash around and admire the temple built at the rivers edge. There are two temples on the trail, a hidden road to stroll down a rarely seen part of the village. Explore up and down the river, scamper over the massive rocks and see how many waterfalls you can find! Walking the trail is a must for every visitor, it is only a 30 minute walk from the doorstep on the top of the ridge to the twin bridges in Ubud. (Where there is a really nice restaurant--named--Bridges!) On this road, you get smiles from everyone, young and old alike. It is just the norm. So make sure you hand out as many as you get. If someone doesn't smile at you here, flash them one and see the massive grin you get back!!
