About our home

This villa is custom built by a Balinese wood carver and designer to suit his modern needs. The space is filled with light and air, with earthly colors complimenting the Indonesian feel. The villa features modern Indonesian art, including paintings and Balinese carving. The design of the villa allows an aesthetic and practical interface between the outside and the inside.

The villa is a two level structure with a majestic wooden staircase linking the two. Underneath the staircase, a small fish pond water- feature brings the outside inside. This is one of the many small design treats in the villa.

Up the stairs, wooden floors and high vaulted ceilings are featured in every room. The master bedroom is roomy with a queen sized bed with new mattress and quality linen. A large wardrobe will let you move in with comfort. A meditation room is adjacent to the wardrobe. The spacious bathroom features a large bath tub, shower, sink and Western toilet. The master bedroom has an air conditioning unit in addition to a ceiling fan.

The guest bedroom is also on the second floor. It is large with a queen size Dutch antique bed and a wardrobe. It features a ceiling fan and a balcony with pool view.

The staircase descends seamlessly into the main level and the generous communal living area, bathroom, dining room, kitchen and pool.

The open space of the living area features modern Balinese art; paintings and carvings. Two white leather couches with teak coffee table welcome conversation and entertainment and can double for sleeping. Teak is a theme throughout the house - an antique cupboard in the kitchen, living area coffee table and an antique sideboard and flat screen TV with iPad/iPod speakers. High ceilings and architectural vents invite air flow from outside to inside; also through floor to ceiling retractable glass doors. The main floor bathroom (outside shower) is conveniently adjacent to the living area.

The garden is in the back of the house and is a special feature of this villa. It includes coconut and papaya trees, a vegetable garden, an assortment of Balinese flowers, Balinese statues and a traditional Balinese family temple that is used by the Balinese owner for prayer. Great for morning walks and meditation.

A garage apartment is up a flight of stairs and features a double bed with canopy, wardrobe, bathroom, shower, small refrigerator, sofa and air conditioning. The unit is separate from the house and ideal for providing privacy for teenagers or another couple.

A chef's kitchen is adjacent to the living area. It has wooden floors and modern cooking equipment and kitchen ware. Amenities include a stove and oven and a large refrigerator. It features a large antique dining table that seats 6 comfortably. (A breakfast nook outside in the pool ares has 4 additional seats.) The kitchen looks inside into living area and outside to the pool through floor to ceiling glass doors. A marble center island aids in food preparation and conversation.

The pool is 10 meters by 3 meters and 1.5 meters deep - perfect for cooling off and lap swimming. It is surrounded with a wooden deck and landscaped with owner's private orchid collection. There is plenty of room for deck chairs and lounging. A gentle water feature trickles down the wall, providing additional relaxation.

The garage can fit two cars or store rented motorbikes and push bikes.

The house includes one on-site staff member who does gardening and cleaning and daily offerings at the family temple in the garden.

Where is it?

With Ubud explosion of tourism, private rice field views are a thing of the past. This villa is tucked in the next village of Pengosekan. It is quiet and relaxing within the bustle of progress. Ubud is busy and there is much traffic, but you can't hear it from the villa. Progress, on the other hand, allows for Western amenities found nowhere else in Indonesia. Good coffee, a variety of restaurants and endless shopping are available. More traditional cultural programs are found in Ubud - music, dancing, museums, woodcarving, painting and nearby archeology sites - temples and palaces. Ubud is central for Bali - 30 minutes to mountains and beaches, 40 minutes to clubbing, and hour to the airport. Rice field walks are minutes away.
