“We just came back from our great exchange with Eileen and John. We had a great time in their coastal home in Allihies. Their house is really close to the beach and has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The panoramic views of the Atlantic ocean are just unforgettable, whatever the weather! The little town is very picturesque too. There are many interesting sites to visit in the area. We only wished we could have stayed longer :) Eileen did her utmost to make sure the exchange went smoothly (prepared a baby cot for our little one, had the house heated up before we arrived, bought some food as we were arriving quite late and starving :) We would highly recommend an exchange with this lovely family: you can trust them your eyes closed! When we came back, our house was in a perfect condition too! Thank you Eileen and John for your kindness! We hope to exchange again sometime in the near future!!”

About our home
Our seaside home has a very welcoming feel and always seems to embrace the visitor - whether they have been to the house before or enter for the first time. It is easy to clean. There is an open plan living room looking out on the little cove. To sit there an any day - sunny, or blustery - is a joy as the scene keeps changing. One can see the gannets diving for fish, or the waves being lashed against the rocks on the other side. We had an Australian couple who knew a contact and therefore heard about our house. They came for a few days, stayed for 3 weeks - had come such a long way and wanted to see more of Ireland so reluctantly decided to move on - visited the East coast and into Donegal in the North West and came back to Allihies for another week!!! We have a solid fuel stove with coal and some timber provided for your added enjoyment and you can purchase peat briquettes at the local shop. Central heating is also installed. It is the kind of place where to sit and read a book and then raise your eyes to the view is to enter my idea of heaven.

Where is it?
Neighbourhood
Allihies is a stunning seaside village in West Cork with an amazing history - it was a famous copper mining village back with miners coming over from Wales and settling in Allihies.
It has wonderful walks, views, a mining museum with very good cafe where free internet and wifi exists. It is approx 12 miles to the nearest town of Castletownbere which is a fishing port and 30 miles or so to Bantry in West Cork or go via the coast road into Kenmare, County Kerry which is about 40 minutes on a very scenic winding road with sheep grazing on the roadside. There are at least 3 pubs in Allihies with music and Irish nights on certain nights during the week and there is a good restaurant attached to O'Neills Bar in the village. There is a Buddhist Retreat Centre about 5 miles away called Dzogchen Beara which can be visited and it offers hospitality in its restaurant or meditation rooms. Dursey Island is 7 miles away and is reached via Cable Car and is another little glimpse of paradise.
