“We absolutely loved this charming stone cottage. There was such a warm and inviting feel in a wonderful part of Ireland. It was the perfect size for us, and only wish we could have stayed longer ! Dara was so helpful as was his caretaker Michael, hope maybe to return sometime in the future !”
Dara's reviewsAs a host (3)
“I already felt like an old family friend before I left Australia to go to Dara's holiday cottage. He provided so much information about the house, the contents, contact numbers and when we arrived in Ballinrobe, the caretaker Michael turned up promptly to greet us and direct us to the cottage. There was firewood to get us started and everything was clean and ready for us to move in and make ourselves at home. The cottage is a very rustic and historical place on the outskirts of Ballinrobe . Only about 2-3 miles drive into the town where there was everything we needed including a Tesco and a wifii café with great coffee. As there was no computer access at the house, we ventured into Ballinrobe regularly and this helped us feel a part of the community as well. If there was anything we needed Dara was on call at the end of the phone and Michael was there to sort things if we needed firewood restocking or the like. Both Carolyn and I quickly learnt the firebuilding to get the cottage cosy and we were able to recycle our garbage easily in Ballinrobe. The cottage...no shower but a bathtub that was fine. The hot water heated very quickly with the fire on and so we didn't need to use the electric immersion heating too often as we tried to keep our electricity costs down. The bedrooms are roomy with plenty of clothes storage. Dara has an amazing DVD collection but the TV could do with updating. It was a shame to have such a vast collection with such a small TV to watch movies on. However, we were supposed to be out and about not watching telly. The little village of Cong just 6 kms from Ballinrobe quickly became one of our favourite places in Ireland as well. The lake is an easy 2km walk from the house and well worth a visit. Michael happily showed us his holiday cottage by the lake and had it been warmer we may have taken him up on a boat ride. Clooncurraun cottage is a great place to see much of the west coast from. We took many day trips and a few overnighters from here. All in all, I would highly recommend the cottage for a short or long term stay. We loved it and it will always be in our memories of Ireland. Thanks Dara and Sally.”
“We had great week at Dara's cottage despite mixed weather. Dara stayed longer during the day to welcome us and explained everything to us including the interesting history of the place. Truly appreciated! The cottage is a really cosy place, very well equipped and the DVD collection just exceptional! Thanks for everything, Dara. ”
