More about us

  1. We are a middle-aged couple (one of us is retired), with a grown-up family who are living in different parts of the world. We enjoy travelling generally, and visiting our family members. We often travel with our brothers and sisters and their partners. We're pretty active and enjoy getting to know places by exploring them on foot, stopping in for a coffee or glass of wine in the local bar/café, and getting to talk to local people. While we appreciate the sophistication and facilities that cities can offer, we also love the relaxation and slower pace of rural locations. We've always lived near the sea, and like to be near it when on holiday, too. We're interested in music, literature, art, walking, swimming, exploring new places and getting to know the people living in them. We speak a little French and Spanish, and would love to be able to speak more Italian!

Neighbourhood

Our house is located in a peaceful setting looking westwards across the shores of Galway Bay, within walking distance (1.2km) of picturesque Ballyvaughan village and 500m from Bishop's Quarter beach. Ballyvaughan is one of the most vibrant villages in Ireland's Burren Region, a picturesque seaside village overlooking Galway Bay to the front with the stunning Burren mountains to the rear. Ballyvaughan is located on the Wild Atlantic Way, a world-famous coastal route that includes the renowned Cliffs of Moher (www.wildatlanticway.com). The property is 45kms from Galway city with a full range of amenities and attractions for visitors.

The Burren Region has been a centre for famous Celtic artists and poets. From traditional music to limestone caves to ocean kayaking, from golfing and fishing to prehistoric monuments and hill-trekking, Ireland's Burren Region has something for everyone. This plateau of North-West Clare is internationally famous because of its beautiful limestone landscapes and the remarkable flora of the region as well as its rich archaeological heritage. The area also hosts 70 wedge-tombs, the most famous of them being Poulnabrone, ring forts, caves and castles.
A car is recommended for full exploration of this lovely part of County Clare. We can do a car swap.

Our house is 70kms from Shannon Airport. It takes 80-90 minutes to drive from the airport to our house.
