Our home is a modern, comfortable, spacious house constructed on it's own site in 2006. It is a home full of light and space and has wonderful views of the sea and the world-famous Burren landscape.
The kitchen and living area is very large and is a great place for the whole family to be together. There is a full range of kitchen appliances, kitchenware, cooking utensils and delph to suit all ages.
The dining area looks onto the terrace and Garden, while the room also has a cosy living and TV area.
There is a separate sitting room off the kitchen with open fireplace, tv, piano and comfortable soft furnishing.
Off the spacious hall is the playroom and a downstairs ensuite double bedroom and visitor WC. Upstairs are 2 large double en-suite bedrooms along with a children's room with two single bunk beds and the main bathroom.
The garden is in two sections with a traditional stone wall and a line of Ash trees dividing the grounds, giving plenty of place to play or just sit and enjoy the fresh Atlantic air and great views. There are a swing set, trampoline and set of goalposts in the garden.
We are a family of four, Joe, Siobhán and our two boys Rónán 10 and Cuan 9.
Joe works in Irish television and Siobhán is a psychologist with the Health Executive.
We enjoy walking, swimming and being outdoors, and football is a very big part of our lives at the moment.
We have completed 3 exchanges before and loved the experience.
We are very respectful of the home and family we exchange with and we are also considerate of the neighbourhood.
Our home is 1.8km from Barna, a small but lively seaside village just outside of Galway city. It is the gateway village to Connemara which is on our doorstep.
Barna is a fantastic access point for Galway City, Connemara, The Aran Islands,The Burren, Salthill resort, Lough Corrib, Mayo and even Dublin which is only 2h30 from Galway.
There is no shortage of things to do and see: being by the sea there are facilities in nearby Salthill for windsurfing, sailing and of course plenty of lovely beaches to swim on.
Barna village has two beaches, one large and one small and secluded, there is a lovely stone pier from which fishing boats ply Galway Bay. There is a bustling Hotel with a well-deserved reputation for its restaurant and welcoming Bar, there is a traditional gastro pub and two other fine restaurants in the village one specializing in seafood the other in modern cuisine. We also have a big supermarket and several shops including two pharmacies in the village.
Galway has been a tourist city for many, many decades. With its famous Claddagh cillage, canals, river, lake, energetic pubs and nightlife, wide range of cafés and restaurants, dynamic arts scene and many summer festivals it has attractions to suit all ages.
