Where is it?
Voted as one of Europe's destinations of excellence, Carlingford is situated on the shores of the Irish Sea tucked away in a very secluded Lough at the foot of Slieve Foy Mountain. It is a very beautiful, picturesque medieval town pacted full of heritage and history dating back to the 8th and 9th century when it was raided by the Vikings.
Activities are endless in Carlingford, where be it hill walking, golf, swimming, sailing, tennis, horse riding, in fact, there is very little you can't do. There are 14 restaurants in the town serving the finest Irish cuisine as well as many traditional pubs where the local talent preform. There is live music nearly every night of the week and sets a fantastic tone to wind down on the perfect day.
Day trippers love to come to Carlingford at the weekends as it's 1 hour from Dublin and 1 hour from Belfast, but when Monday come's around, the village transforms back to the quiet little town where visitors come to get away from it all.
Carlingford is located 5 miles South of the border to Northern Ireland. A 20min drive North and you will enter another country!
But don't take my word for it go to http://dev.carlingfordandmourne.com/ and http://www.carlingford.ie and see for yourself. There are many events scheduled through out the summer guaranteeing lots of fun and frolics :)
