Our home is approx 1400sq. feet and is newly refurbished. It sleeps 6 comfortable (two double bedrooms and a twin room) but there is an extra bed in the study/bedroom for a 7th. There are two bathrooms (one with shower and one with Jacuzzi), sitting room, dining, kitchen and utility room. There is oil central heating, an open fire in the sitting room together with a stove fire in the living room.
We are open to a car exchange which one will require if you want to travel around Ireland. Our home is in Castlebar town in a quiet and secure residential area. It is only a 10 minute walk for the morning paper and the evening pint of Guinness (see attached photo!) but in reality a car is necessary.
Contrary to popular belief the west of Ireland at Christmas/New Year is quite spectacular and is generally pretty dry.
Castlebar is the main town for Co. Mayo and can be seen at www.castlebar.ie. There is a direct train line to Dublin or alternatively it is a 3-3.5 hour drive. Dublin is no doubt, one of Europes most vibrant cities with so much do do - www.visitdublin.ie.
For golfers there are many top class golf courses all within an hour drive (Castlebar 15mins, Westport 30 mins, Enniscrone 40 mins) and special rates are available when attending all three! There are many walking and hiking opportunities available from the front door of our house to the whole of the county. Stunning beaches on the wild Atlantic are within a half hour drive as is the famous Croagh Patrick.
We are a 40 minute drive from Knock International Airport which can have you in London (Gatwick) in another hour. There are other European destinations available should you fancy ski or sun. We are also about 1.5 hours from Galway Airport which flies to Edinburgh, Scotland.
Our town offers many facilities including golf, tennis, walking etc… The Theatre Royal is a new facility that is the largest indoor music venue outside of Dublin with many interesting Acts planned for Christmas/New Year no doubt. It is within walking distance from our house and is fantastic facility for the area. There are many restaurants and pubs for evening entertainment.
We are also within driving distance from stunning old castles/houses including Ashford Castle, Mount Falcon Estate and Newport House all offering superior hotel and dining experiences. The area is also steeped in history with many monuments/museums etc.. to be visited (http://www.museumsofmayo.com). We are a 20 minute drive from Westport which has great restaurants, pubs and fun!
For those interested in fishing we are very close to the Moy River, Lough Conn and Lough Mask.
Mayo offers a stark and interesting contrast to Phoenix and we would love to welcome you here!
We are an adult family seeking to travel to Phoenix to visit our brother. My mother Anne, the homeowner is teacher in the local secondary school and loves travelling. Her children live in varying locations around Ireland . While numbers are not finalised there will be a maximum of 5 adults travelling. We are avid golfers with an interest in all things out doors. While we have not done a house exchange before we have all travelled extensively and would be respectful of our host's property and neighbours. Furthermore, you may be interested in meeting James (who lives in Phoenix) prior to making any decisions - his Irish charm will surely seal the deal!
