About our home

Our lovely home is situated on the outskirts of Timoleague, a pretty little seaside village famous for its 13th Century Franciscan Abbey, built on the site of a 6th Century Monastic settlement founded by Saint Molaga. "Timoleague" comes from the Irish for "House of Molaga"- Tigh Molaga. We are only 4 minutes walk from the village and are situated across the bridge, directly opposite the village, looking directly at the Abbey. Although a small village we have churches of two denominations- the Catholic church has triple stained glass windows by the famous Harry Clarke; the Protestant Church interior being completely decorated in mosaic and gold leaf work carried out and paid for mainly by the then Maharajah of Gwalior of India in about 1920,this took 30 years to complete and is stunning.

This area is famous for its breathtaking scenery, great beaches, lots of marked out walkways, world class golf, sailing, surfing and of course FOOD!! West Cork is home to the Irish Slow Food Movement with emphasis on local Artisan producers. All the local towns have farmers markets every week. There are loads of fantastic restaurants, cafes and pubs with good food in this area. There are two fantastic restaurants in the village of Timoleague (Monks Lane & Dillons) as well as two shops, a petrol station, a pharmacy, a butcher and 3 bars. We are only 25mins drive from beautiful Kinsale, known as the gourmet capital of Ireland. Famous Clonakilty town is only 8km away, Bandon is 12km away. Skibbereen 41km away, Baltimore 50km away, Schull is 55km away. Bantry is an hours drive and Killarney, Co. Kerry is 1hr15mins drive. Cork airport is 30km away.

Our house is a detached 5 bedroom house with a large enclosed garden and a patio overlooking the water and Abbey. We have a very large well equipped kitchen with a walnut 8-10 seater table in the middle. There is a Fisher+Paykel American style fridge/freezer, integrated Fisher+Paykel dishwasher drawers and a large Waterford Stanley Cooker with 5 gas burner hob and a double electric oven. We have a walk in pantry with another sink and small fridge. There is also a seperate utilty room with washing machine, clothes dryer and iron. There are 2 reception rooms, both with open fires ( plenty of wood and coal in our shed!). There is also oil fired central heating. We have 4 double rooms, one having an en-suite shower and toilet. There is also one twin room. There is also a daybed/junior bed that can be used as a couch in the kitchen/dining area bay window or moved to any of the bedrooms to accommodate a 2-7 year old. There is a large family bathroom with fixed shower over bath. There is also a separate toilet beside the utility room. Our décor is a mixture of traditional with many antiques thrown in. We have Sky TV including all the Sports/Kids Channels/Movies. We also have an Xbox.

We have 2 kids, a girl of 10 and boy of 8, so there are plenty toys, bikes, DVD's etc. in situ. We can provide cots, sterilisers, highchairs, playpens, moniters etc. if required. We can also put you in touch with our childminder if needed. There is an excellent playground in the village and larger ones in all the surrounding towns.
If you don't have any need of kiddie stuff then all these things can be locked away in a store room leaving plenty room for adult relaxation. There are beautiful boutiques, galleries and craft shops in Clonakilty, Bandon and Skibbereen. Cork city is a 45min drive if you want high street shopping.
We are interested in swapping with anyone in Europe. We don't have to swap simultaneously. We can negotiate having access to one of our cars.
Our family also own a 4 bedroom summer home in Ballyferriter, outside Dingle in Co. Kerry and also a 4 bedroom villa in Villamoura, Algarve in Portugal. These may also possibly form part of a swap agreement for the right property!
