Our home combines family comfort and period elegance. It is a three story house of approximately 2,700 square feet, restored in period character with private landscaped gardens, front and back. The house is light, airy and spacious having large rooms with high ceilings and large windows. It is decorated to a high standard but is child friendly and comfortable.
The ground floor contains a porch, entrance hall, large drawing room,playroom, kitchen with dining area, family room, utility and toilet. The drawing room is decorated with period antique furniture,the playroom has toys suitable to children aged from 4 to 7 and the house has telephone, cable tv, DVD, CD and wireless broadband. The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern appliances and the utility has a washer and dryer.
The first floor contains two large double bedrooms, one ensuite (with power shower), a single bedroom and a bathroom with bath and shower. The second floor contains a very large double bedroom with a well stocked book shelf and desk. This floor also has a study with desk and rocking chair for relaxed reading.
The front of the house contains a gravel drive with car parking spaces & beautiful planting, including some very old mature trees. Large wooden gates provide privacy and safety. A side gate leads to the back terrace which contains a much loved swinging seat, a basketball ring, and some planting. Steps lead to a 100ft lawned garden with well planted borders at each side. The bottom of the garden contains another terrace and is bounded by a high stone wall which backs onto the quiet, gardens of a secluded convent. A garden room contains BBQ, a range of garden furniture, bikes for four and an exercise treadmill.
We live in one of the oldest suburbs of Cork city which is characterised by period houses and many large mature gardens and trees. Our house is surrounded by many public walking routes including a walk along the river Lee, on an old railway line which is now pedestrianised and a harbour walk leading to an old castle which now houses an observatory and a restaurant.
Our house is within short walking distance of key facilities including, a grocery shop, butcher shop, pharmacy, organic bakery and cafe, gourmet food shop, four pubs, a postoffice, a bank, a filling station and both Roman Catholic and Protestant churches. It is also on a bus route to the city centre, a trip which takes ten minutes.
Despite being a very mature neighbourhood it's population in recent years has moved toward young families with children. It is an extremely safe neighbourhood, which has a village like, friendy atmosphere.
